7/4/21 Sunday - Lanny’s Blog

I wrote my blog on Saturday 7/3  but didn’t get it posted???  I went ahead and posted a 7/3 today just to keep a sequence but didn’t blog much — Still trying to catch up from my very busy Centrikid week. We went to Hoskins for breakfast and then to Oak Ridge for groceries then I spent the afternoon taking a short nap and running around the property with the Mule. I took some old catfish packaged bait to the Big Pond and I caught a couple of big cats while setting up the poles with the intent of taking Danny and Paul out after supper. Danny showed up at 5:30p and since it was late we went and cleared a big pine out of the trail above the Little Pond and then stopped by the Big Pond but the fish weren’t biting so we went home —-

I should get back to my normal routine today —- maybe —-

Pretty morning on the hill ...

Monday was the first day of Centrikid Camp 6/28/29. We didn't get to go last year due to Covid 19 and there are residual issues still affecting everyone here  but Praise God Covid cannot affect the Holy Spirit so it is going to be a great week here at Campbellsville. We were put into the apartments and they were just refurbished and painted so they are great --.  8  Girls,  2 boys and 3 adults(?) and  this is going to be a stellar week -- The camp has been extended to a five day camp instead of so we'll be back Friday -- I didn't get the "memo" but I'm sure the parents did --- We start at our 7:00a breakfast and of course we end when the lights go out  at 10:30P. My two boys are real gentlemen with me but act up a little around the girls -- imagine that?!?!?

6/28/21 Monday - Lanny’s Blog

Sunday was a "Divine Appointment" --Prepared for a special lesson and got everything set up in the room and had no students! I spoke to God and quoted a line from "Facing the Giants", "Lord, I prepared for the rain You Promised" as I looked at how the room was set up and prepared to teach. As soon as the prayer went up Jenice walked through the door with THREE students! Not just any 3 students but 3 former students, and not just any 3 former students but 3 students from the Covid disaster 2020 class -- and not just any 3 students from the Covid disaster 2020 shutdown  -- the 3 Special Students was SADIE, Sadie's BF Molly McAmmis, and Karigan and the "Cherry on Top" is that Sadie and Molly are going to Centrikid this year!!!  The lesson yesterday centered around John 3:16 and we talked about God's Plan for every individual and the Holy Spirit  filled the room and then two more students showed up and it was a SUPER LESSON and it will continue on at Centrikid -- I never go to Centrikid knowing what will happen, BUT SOMETHING SPECIAL ALWAYS DOES AND SADIE IS GOING TO BE THERE. I will post in this space what happens at CentriKid this week---

Saturday was a Hoskins, the CO-OP, and Food City, then back home and I did Danny's Hill and the Driveway down to the mailboxes -- used  the post puller and cleared the barbed wire and mowed the corner on Danny's Hill where the old car was parked -- I used the TORO where I could and used the weed eater and push mower on the rest -- raked all the gravel off the concrete and it sure looks good!! I use the T100 and its AC to keep myself from overheating and I got a LOT of work done -- forgot to take pictures of the driveway but did get a pic of the biggest spider I've seen when I went down and mowed the Big Pond dam and picnic area

6/25/21 Friday - Lanny’s Blog

Thursday was a TORO clean up day to the "SWISHER" mowing day I had on Wednesday. The SWISHER is a "rough cut" mower/bush hog which leaves some "rough" places but I can set the TORO on 4 1/2" and it looks "finished cut" -- so Thursday I finished off what I had done Wednesday. Went to lunch with Danny and then we built some Bat Houses from a purchased one from Tractor Supply - we could make a ton of these fairly easy  so when we get stuck in the shop this winter we may set up a little shop inside and build Bat Houses and sell them in the spring--

6/24/21 Thursday - Lanny’s Blog

Wednesday was a "SWISHER" mowing day and I started working my way through the fallen elm tree - the tree splintered about halfway up the trunk and fell so that the top is in the creek so access to the property where Deb is going to put the big garden is blocked and will have to be cut and removed before we can work on that plot of land. I am just trying to clear enough right now just to be able to get the mower to the other side of the tree. I took the Swisher on the east side of the creek and mowed the really tall stuff and then up to the middle section (I have named it the Grand Meadow) where I did about half of it before mowing down the steep part  and worked on widening the delta and Hidden Creek plots. There is a lot of area to cover and I will be busy all summer for sure!

Tuesday was spent cleaning up from the downburst and rain from Monday night. I then cleaned the Common Area for Family Night and mid morning the sun came out so since it was Tuesday I thought I would start on the pool deck with the deck boards Nathaniel left. I started cutting out rotted boards but after a couple of trips back to the shop for tools I decided to put my RIGID tool box back into service. I spent an hour or so but was able to get all tools back into the RIGID and mounted it in the Mule . I then had a complete work station In the back of the Mule so I drove back to the pool deck and got a LOT of work done. I cleaned the deck  and then mowed the back. The Mule is the BEST work truck/vehicle and absolutely necessary for all the work I do on Johnson Gap -- THANKS DANNY !!!!!!!

Big DAY(Saturday 6/19)  — The MULE is back !!!

After our breakfast date at Hoskins on Saturdays, I got my T100 and headed to meet Danny to load the Mule and bring it home — I have never had a piece of equipment that has been such a great work vehicle and I have missed it, it is such a valuable piece of the Johnson Gap puzzle that I would be lost without it!!! — Once I got the Mule unloaded I drove Danny around to show him what I got done with the TORO (and what MUST be done with the MULE/SWISHER combo) — the big grass has grown and it will take the Mule to get the Swisher back into those hard and deep weed places, then I will be able to hit them with the TORO — I had to get the Swisher hooked up to the MULE and readjust the Swisher level since the Mule is a foot lower to the ground than the T100 and once I managed to level the Swisher I took it up on top of the hill and cut the upper perimeter until I ran out of gas in the Swisher — I was hot and had not brought any water so I went back down the hill and unhooked then up to the Pole Barn for some water — had to go into the house for a cool down and did some banking — we had bought a watermelon at Food City so I got out all my cutting stuff and bowls and sat outside in the common area under the fans and cut the watermelon — we will serve it with Father’s Day hamburgers tomorrow —-

It was “Mowing Day” with the TORO and the “Back 60” — I got the DELTA Meadow finish cut after having to cut @4 1/2” then down to 3” but it was still very fast as I have not got to where I can go “Full Throttle” and the TORO flies through the grass!!  After cutting the new spots I went up to the “GREEN and cut everything to 4 1/2” all the way to the top of the middle hill and then went down and did 3” finish in a circle for my Green. “It is looking like a golf course” Paul said as I gave him a T100 tour after supper. Danny called with MORE GOOD NEWS — the MULE is ready so we will pick it up today at 10:00a and we will run the Swisher behind the Mule and follow with the TORO and see how much tall grass we can cut today.

6/18/21 Friday - Lanny’s Blog

The day started early when Deb said that she had trapped a skunk — OK NOW WHAT??? I was able to finish my Bible reading and my Wednesday blog but then it was get dressed and resolve the skunk problem…

I put on some old clothes and went to the pole barn and looked for “poles”, long poles to be able to carry out the cage yet keep our distance. So we carefully put the longest pole I had in my spare lumber pile through the handle on the cage and VERY GENTLY raised the skunk and took him outside the yard and Debbie released him out into the woods — no big sprays but I still smelled like skunk and had to change clothes — the rest of the day I will tell with photos:

6/17/21 Thursday - 6/17 Blog

Wednesday was VBS (the first missed in decades) so Danny and I had a “Fishing Day” which we spent the most of cleaning the boat and getting the Fall & Winter off the boat that was left under a tree for a couple of months. The boat had not been covered so we had a lot of cleaning to do — we had purchased an “Outdoor Cleaner” that worked great on the whole boat so between pressure washing and scrubbing with the cleaner we shined the boat up really sharp — it was noon before we made it to the dock out at Big Ridge and we launched without any mishaps. Danny kept trying to get the boat to Plane out but it was acting weird and we actually was taking on water — this was very disappointing but we just used the bilge pump and went slow to the Rock Pile to catfish. We had to find shade and since it was noon we had to get near the shore and getting near the shore we were away from the channel so we didn’t catch but one bluegill — but the boat was clean and cool in the shade. After an hour or so of not catching anything we decided to move and Danny said that as soon as we got back to the launch and loaded the boat we were going to take it to the repair shop because of the really strange issue we were having with the motor — I kept having this feeling it had something to do with the motors ability to adjust and then like a FLASH I remembered I did not remove the arm that keeps the motor stable during transport so we went back to the launch, raised the motor, and I pulled the arm — THAT WAS THE PROBLEM — once the motor could get all the way down it could “trim” itself and the boat ran GREAT — I learned a good lesson and Danny also learned that the trolling motor 24 volt system must be charged because we had no trolling motor or bow fish finder —- two good lessons but the fact of the matter was a great FISHING DAY is just being with your brother and the BONUS was a clean boat. We fished 5 1/2 hours (in the shade and I caught ZERO fish but had a really nice day on the boat!

Today we have a special challenge as Deb looked at her outside bio-pod camera and we have a skunk in her trap!!

  ###################DAY  167  OF  2021 ##################

6/16/21 Wednesday

Yesterday I went to deposit the surprise rebate check Deb got in the mail from BCBS and on the way home I stopped by Oak Ridge Hardwood and picked up some playground chips and then spread them on the driveway and then under the deck for the chickens and ducks — It looks great and it was hard work and it made the pool feel great. After spreading the mulch I then hooked the SWISHER onto the T100 and the new mounting of the engage cable worked great and I got a lot of rough cut mowing done — I did a big cut on the “GREEN” on the Grand Meadow and once I ran out of gas in the Swisher I unhooked and went and jumped on the TORO 60” and took it to the Green and set the blades at 4.5” and cut the Green with the TORO. It took maybe 15 minutes and I headed back to the house to run and get ice for Family Night which was MIMILADAS — THE BEST. Danny brought the rifle Paul had given him and put it on Paul’s Gun Rack and Paul was thrilled — it looks great so I went and got my Henry and put with it to complete the Gun Rack and it looks great!! Thanks Danny for the Grand Gesture - putting all the “FAMILY” rifles on that rack meant a lot !!!

  ###################DAY  166  OF  2021 ##################

6/21/15 Tuesday

Yesterday I got out early and got the Swisher back into production — I had to modify the work the Northern people did to install the cable which they did wrong — they simply connected the cable and failed to return the cable to the harness nor adjust it to the right length — anyway, I was able to make it work and got it hooked to the T100 and took it down the hill and was cutting trails — I had stretched the cable too far to get it to the back of the T100 so my turning radius was restricted but I managed to get it back up the hill and will modify the set up with a tongue mount for the engage so that I will not stress the cable.

As I was working on getting turned around I got a call from Danny and his ZERO TURN mower had arrived. Deb made me an egg with green salsa so I ate and headed out to help Danny. By the time I had arrived at his place he had already mowed  but then he showed me the problem with his brand new ELITE BAD BOY 60” Mower and the steering handle were too close and he had the seat all the way back and he struggled to get into reverse?!?! I got into the seat and noticed that the handles appeared to be turned the wrong way and could be swapped and turned away from the body — we exchanged the handles and sure enough it resolved the issue. I really enjoyed how the Bad Boy drives but Danny said the 60” was too big for his small yard, but not the rest of the property and besides, the Bad Boy was a “Father’s Day” gift from his neighbor Johnny. Danny then said he wanted chicken from the Colonel  so we ran in for lunch. I made it back home about 5:00p cleaned up for popcorn and a movie — Danny has a surprise for Paul which will be revealed at Family Night tonight!!!

6/13/21 Sunday - Johnson Gap Blog 6/13

Saturday was the first sunny day this week so after doing bills and our weekly trip to Hoskins and Food City (for Sunday lunch supplies) we came home and worked out in the property. Paula helped me move the “trash pile” that gathered in Robbie’s fire pit down to the big burn pit and I burned both. I then took the sharpened mulching mower down to the mailbox and I mowed that area. I cleaned and sorted the pole barn bay and my next project is to repair my mower overhead and mount the new chain hoist. It was hot and humid so I spent time in the T100 under the air conditioner and in the afternoon Deb and I floated in the pool. I am engineering a septic cover that will serve as a plant stand but if the cover needs to be pulled I will simply have to move the plant and lift the wooden cover to expose the septic lid — should not have to pump again for two or three years.

    6/12/21 New text entry method:

Friday was the 5th day in a row that we had too much rain to get to the back of the property so I continued work on the Pole Barn. I got Danny’s Cub Cadet started and moved it out to clean the bay and also moved out the TORO also — I then started cleaning and rearranging the mower bay and the automotive bay. I moved the air compressor that doesn’t work out and when I brought in the spare compressor I set up an air station beside the radial arm saw and salvaged the 50 ft hose off Paul’s defunct compressor. I then used the air to clean the TORO and air up the tires on the Cub Cadet. For the automotive side I arranged all my tools and put back the socket sets that I had loaned Nathaniel. Once I got the sockets back in their Craftsman and Husky boxes I then pulled up my self propelled mower and cleaned out the undercarriage and sharpened the mulching blades which were in terrible shape. All in all I made great progress on the pole barn Bay 1 work benches, tool sets, air station, and mowers — today I will try and hang the chain hoist and continue mowing on the Burn Pit Lot.

Sure am ready for sunshine

    6/11/21 New text entry method:

Yesterday I drove to Northern Tool and picked up the Swisher rough cut mower with Danny’s big trailer. It was kinda strange because I walked into the store and back to the parts department but the door was closed and when I went back up front the guy at the cash register said Lilly was loading my mower up??? I had said nothing to anyone but I guess that my giving them the UPS tracking number made them realize both I and Swisher knew so they went and got the cable installed ASAP and got their “ducks in a row” —- I got the mower home and unloaded and took the trailer back to Danny’s and unloaded there. I then cam back to take Deb to Oak Ridge  to Kroger’s and took her by Freddy’s for a burger. After a short nap at home I went and shoveled dirt back into the ditch I had dug for the septic tank issue and mowed the chicken run with the self-propelled - if it doesn’t’t rain overnight I will get down to the bottom of the hill to the creek and remove the fallen tree and see if I can get the TORO down the hill to mow —-

GOOD THURSDAY   MORNIN'  5:17a   06/10/2021  FROM   JOHNSON  GAP :)

 ######################     DAY  161  OF  2021    #####################

Wednesday was a blessing in disguise -- I was packing the truck to go help Danny with some tasks and to get the trailer so I can get my Swisher mower back from Northern Tool ---and Debbie came to the truck and informed me the toilet would not flush?!?! The plunger would not work so the search for the missing "clean out" began but was not found which left me with only one option-- I had to run a snake from the toilet and when that failed then I had to pull the cover to the septic and "Reverse snake" the pipe feeding the septic from the toilet which was about 15 yards from the septic. I took a deep breath , changed into some work clothes, and pulled the cover which is a big concrete block that weighs about 2 tons  so I had to engineer a way to get some leverage to lift with my legs and I rigged up some strapping and lifting bar and managed to pull the cover -- then I found a brass high pressure nozzle for the hose and I literally flushed the pipe from the septic side while Debbie watched to make sure I did not flood the house and when I adjusted the cone to about 3" I started blasting big grease blobs from the previous owners from the drain pipes and after about 10 yards the blob that was blocking the toilet gave way and the problem was solved -- I managed to wash the pipe all the way to the toilet which is flushing great and after several runs in and out and multiple flushes I was able to get no more grease out and the drains are working perfectly -- AND EVERYONE KNOWS THAT GOOD DRAINS ARE A BLESSING!!! I cleaned everything and put the cover back and changed clothes and headed to Danny's.

At Danny's he wanted to level his deck but a big rain came and we decided to not take the trailer out on the interstate with all that water on the roads -- we waited out the hard rain and after putting a level on the deck we decided it was an optical illusion and moved on to getting the 4x4 awaiting repair into the the little shed where he parks his mowers so we hook up the 4x4 with the winch and pulled it into the shed. We then jumped in the truck (my T100) and headed with my extra cable and documentation to Northern who said they would fix my mower if they had the part -- I gave the part to Lilly and she grabbed some tools to start working on it but I told her I did not have the trailer and would return tomorrow to pick it up -- I showed her the UPS tracking number on the part sent to Northern and encouraged her to "look" for the part because I had to pay for the one I had --- she called later in the day and said the mower was ready and she had located the other part which I will pick up with the trailer..

Danny and I went to Harbor Freight and picked up a chain hoist and the went to Sonic for a chili cheese dog on the way home. Back home we loaded cement rounds, moved trailers around and hooked to appropriate trucks and loaded the 4x4 onto the small trailer to take for repairs tomorrow-- and I disconnected the line that was out in the goat pasture. Danny had stopped at Lowes to pick up an 11 foot umbrella for his deck but instead bought a pink flamingo for Deb which she LOVED and put it on the Koi Pond deck!!

My task today is get the mower back home.

 ######################     DAY  160  OF  2021    #####################

Tuesday was a big Family Night now that the world is waking up to the PLANDEMIC COVID HOAX -- sure is nice to see smiles and people breathing the free air --- GOD IS GOOD!!!

I made a trash run and deposited some checks and moved some more stuff around the pole barn -- I then uncovered the TORO and tried to start it but the battery was run down -- I charged it and read the manual on recommended start and shutdown procedures which I think is why the battery was needing a charge -- got the TORO started and mowed. I'm developing the skill required for the zero turn mentality and I have gained a little more control.

I also got out the Ryobi and mowed the back yard and was basically doing small things in the common area and my indoor shop. Danny and I are going to take the part to Northern to get my SWISHER fixed which has been in the shop since April 24 !?!? We will run by Harbor Freight and maybe Golden Corral for lunch ---YUM!

 ######################     DAY  159  OF  2021    #####################

Monday was a GREAT DAY for us at Johnson Gap -- we have totally and completely resolved the  SEPTIC TANK issue. They are  "HEROS" for sure!!! We completely cleaned  and inspected  the 1000 gallon tank and it is in great shape. All our drains into the septic are completely cleaned and flowing well and will start a monthly routine to maintain a healthy system. Plus we have a lifetime warranty that will remain with the property, even if we sell (which we will NEVER) --- With all the rain yesterday and having to wait on the SEPTIC service call, I decided to clean the corner by the big double door in the common area and it looks great -- I have to get some 4x8 sheets for Benches and I will organize Robbie's bay and set up the outdoor shop for Robbies active tools on one wall and Paul's saw on the other then well put seldom used tools for storage in the pole barn loft (yet to be built at the end of Robbie's bay)

I called Northern and they have not returned my call so I am going down this week with the trailer and pick up the mower, I fixed it once without the part so now with the part I can get the mower working again!

Before the rain

Deb snapped these three pics with her phone --

These guys were great and we have resolved the SEPTIC for the rest of our lives!!!

Clean and inspected tank, also we ran a water hose into the house through the input line and removed all the grease and blockage from the kitchen sink

Sunday was another blessed day at Calvary Baptist as the Holy Spirit filled Calvary with the "peace the passes all understanding"!  We only had two students in 3rd grade Sunday School but it was one of the most amazing classes we've ever been part of -- Rueben and Adeline are just wonderful and I will always be impressed how God works through the children, if we could just get more people to listen to the Holy Spirit teaching us through them.

Since the septic is "out of service" and the kitchen is on the septic, we brought home Dominos Pizza for our Sunday lunch. --- Then nap time and back to church ---

Saturday and Friday were really good days for drying up the new roads so after I found the cap to the septic tankI took the T100 down to the mule and with Nathaniel steering the Mule I pulled it back up the hill and put it in the pole barn up on jack stands and Danny arrived and made the call to load the Mule up on the trailer and take it to Tommy's -- it will be three weeks to a month---

I have not contacted Northern about my Swisher yet, I know they got the part last week????

Saturday was a strange day, septic tank issues, air bag drama, snake bites, and a sick Mule???

Friday was a nice day for drying up the new roads so while we were waiting to get the Mule pulled up the hill, Danny and I went fishing in the pond behind his property but we didn't catch anything -- Deb called and said there was a lot of water in the bathroom and we have the septic backing up on us -- I pulled the toilet and went for another wax ring while Deb was calling septic people -- I spent the rest of the evening digging up the drain pipe trying to locate the pump port for the septic. I rigged up a temporary discharge for Peggy and Paul and then the HEP guy showed up and gave us a "Free" quote but could not "schedule" anything until Monday. Deb was talking to another group that may be able to come Monday -- looks like a long weekend coming up.

 ######################     DAY  155  OF  2021    #####################

Thursday was nothing but rain for the most of the day so we made a run to Costco and took Sadie to Red Robin for lunch. When we returned it quit raining and I started working on the "Watering Can - water feature" for the Koi Pond so I spent the rest of the time cutting a hole in the bottom of a perfectly good can!! After a couple of hours of hunting fittings and cutting holes I put together a workable solution and the engineered the mounting --- I had to make several attempts at getting the "holes" big enough for the volume of water flow out of our pump but all is worked out so the feedthrough is sealed and waiting for everything to dry up and I will complete the install tomorrow. ...

I took the T100 out to test my newly cut roads and the rain made a mud-slick out of the new roads so it is imperative to get gravel for the Corral Road or we will never be able to use the back part of the property if it rains!?!?!?!

Wednesday was a WOEFUL day -- As I was coming back down the Big Hill from the Big Pond and I thought I was dragging a branch, when I got to the bottom I pulled the emergency brake and jumped out to look under the Mule and there was nothing ---when I got back in the Mule it was in gear but will not move, it has no reverse or forward, no 4WD or 2WD!!! I tried Hi gear and Low gear but the clutch is noT engaging??? I had to walk back and while I was coming up the hill to the pole barn Danny called and I gave him the bad news. As I type this it is POURING THE RAIN!!!! I use the Mule everyday, all day long so I have to get it fixed. I took Paul down fishing in the T100 but it was sad to have to drive around the Mule. I was going to pull it up the hill with the T100 this morning so this will test my KUBOTA road building skills -- the rain was really hard for quite awhile so we'll see ---

Tuesday was my first day without the KUBOTA so I worked on the outdoor shop in bay 1 and did maintenance and clean up on the Mule, inside and out, filled all fluids and oil, and used the plastic windshield cleaner Danny bought on the Mule and it worked really well -- I set up the air station and air tools and set up the mechanical section on the first bench. I grabbed a pack of crackers and we to work on the Big Pond. I managed to clear the fallen tree branches out of the pond and ran the weed eater on the dam and set one leg of the shade tent and set up a "cleaning station going down to the creek below the dam. I came back to the compound around 4:00p and played on the new TORO Zero-Turn and with the advise of Robbie I started getting a feel on steering and controlling the speed so I will start getting more  getting better and more productive on the Titan!!

Yesterday (Sunday 5/30/21) was KUBOTA DAY 7 - I did Sound for the morning service then came home and will finish what I can with my last full day with the Kubota - Danny came out at 2:00p and we secured the Fallen Tree Gateway so that it will not fall any more and we widened the gateway and made it taller - it was an engineering feat  to raise up the tree and place it on another branch for support - Danny had built a brace for the big end also, so it is double safe and he brought 2 spike so we raised the other end as well, drilled a hole in the branch and nailed it to another tree with the big spikes -- it is not going anywhere!!! I then worked on the Corral Road shoulders and drainage and moved the dirt mounds at the bottom of the hill behind the fence  on our property - it is a top soil source.  I worked until 6:30P, then jumped into the Mule and took photos of the Week of the KUBOTA!!!

 ######################     DAY  150  OF  2021    #####################

Yesterday (Saturday 5/29/21) was KUBOTA DAY 6 - Day 5 saw rain after supper and the skid steer went to the bottom of the hill. I had to do bills and we went to Hoskins then to pick up burgers at Food City. It was still wet and muddy and the skid steer was in an ugly spot with the potential to go all the way to the creek at the bottom of the hill! I decided to try and use the bucket and walk the the skid steer to a flat spot and it was touch and go because of the hill and the mud but I literally inched the skid steer  over to a semi flat spot and then managed to inch the skid steer into a position I could start scrapping the surface mud off - it was inch by inch, then foot by foot, and after some harrowing slipping and sliding , I finally got a good flat strip established and managed to finish off the Pole Barn Lot. I then work on the Pole Barn Road to the bottom of the hill and the back up to work on the drainage  and the shoulders on the Corral Road.

Danny came out in the afternoon and we went down to the Fallen Tree Gateway and were amazed that the tree was being held up by some small branches! We will work on it tomorrow now that I can get the skid steer down to the area and back up. I will do the morning service an get Sean to do tonight. I have more work than I have time left on the Kubota---

Managed to get the Kubota out of the mud and up to a semi flat spot

I kept working the Kubota around and making a bigger flat and then a strip across the lot

After a couple of hours work I finished off the Pole Barn Lot
I decided to try and get the Kubota up the hill instead of working on the Fire Pit Lot

 ######################     DAY  149  OF  2021    #####################

Yesterday (Friday 5/28/21) was KUBOTA DAY 5 which firstly got a late start because we had a Koi  Pond hose malfunction on the waterfall and we almost emptied  the Koi Pond and burnt up the big pump. Had to go buy a new pump and new fittings for the waterfall connections so I was late getting on the Kubota. I worked on the Pole Barn Lot and made great progress and then Danny came out around 10:30a and we drove the property and looked at all the skid steer work and Danny is happy with his hill so I will work with the time I have left to work on the Fire Pit Lot.

I made good progress on the Pole Barn Lot and got started on the Fire Pit Lot and stopped at 4:00p for supper-- I parked the skid steer at the top of the Pole Barn Hill and put a tarp in the cab because it looked like it might sprinkle again and during supper we had a downpour for 10 minutes and then it quit --- when I went back to work on the skid steer it was a little wet and when I lifted the bucket the skid steer slid to the bottom of the hill --- I have learned that a very heavy piece of equipment with tracks will hydroplane on mud and wet grass -- no harm , no foul!!   Hope it dries up enough to work today?!?!?

Today I will finish the Corral Road shoulders and take a little more off the Creek Road and then work on finishing up Danny's Hill.  ######################     DAY  146  OF  2021    #####################

Yesterday (Tuesday 5/25/21) was a big day for the Kubota skid steer as I cut the road down from the corral down to the back part of the property. This was a real challenge because it was a steep hill and deep washouts 9some were 3-4 feet wide and 8-10 ft deep so I had to dig dirt from the sandstone hill and fill the washouts and keep working my way down while widening and leveling at the same time. I also made the downhill less angel so it is a gentle slope and not too steep. I also got Danny's Hill 95% so today  will finish Danny's Hill and smooth out The Road. SO MUCH FUN -- 74 YEARS OLD AND I TAUGHT MYSELF HOW TO OPERATE HEAVY EQUIPMENT AND CUT A MAJOR ROADWAY DOWN THE SIDE OF A MOUNTAIN!!!  Q. E. D.

The TORO 60" was delivered and Debbie and Paula drove it first then Danny came out before family night and we cut some of the tall stuff while trying to learn how to control the BEAST! It is a monster mower for sure as it cut right through the big stuff!!!

Saturday was children's camp so we met at Calvary at 8:00a and did our bible study and then the kids were taken to Steve and Faye McDonald's farm for hotdogs and games -- Deb and I went home to take care of Peg & Paul. Deb found a snake in  the chicken coup in the nesting box and I spent the afternoon getting fishing poles working for Paul, I had promised him to take him fishing. We ate supper and then Paul and I got into the Mule and headed to the Big Pond. I have been working on Paul's "special needs" and with a little fine tuning Paul will be able to have a truly enjoyable experience, cut a few more trees and get him some new equipment that works and we'll be in business for sure! Paul did catch a really huge hybrid bluegill and I caught several bass so we had a good trip. The Big Pond is my favorite place on the farm.

We have Calvary Children's camp today so we will miss Hoskins breakfast -- the afternoon session is at the McDonald farm for hot dogs, I'll bring Deb home and go in the back way if I am needed to help.

Thursday was major moves in Bay #2 which contains all of Robbies construction tools and supplies as well as everything he had in the box truck that Nathaniel is making into a mobil tiny-home. Bay 2 also has some of my junk and all of Paul's stuff from his shop in Oak Ridge, and all of it has been thrown into what is now a complete disaster!  I will build shelves and mount cabinets and several tool benches so that we can actually drive through the bay to get to the back part of the property. I got all of Paul's shelves and tools organized and will start on Robbies today.

Danny came out and mowed and brought me some of the Big Pond catfish he cooked up in his deep fryer and it was delicious!! My sister Ann and Rod came for a visit and I went into Oak Ridge to lead them out to spend the afternoon and visit -- I also took them on a tour of the back 60 in the Mule. They left about 4:30P and I went and picked up pizza as I led them back to the main roads.

GOOD  WEDNESDAY   MORNIN'  5:35a   05/19/2021  FROM   JOHNSON  GAP :)

 ######################     DAY  139 OF  2021    #####################

Tuesday was an all around nice day -- Danny came out after lunch and we laid out where to start moving dirt next Monday. Our plan is to take the top of Danny's Hill off and made a good flat spot for a trailer and a porch then move to the road going down the hill behind the corral. We will work from the top going down and then move to the bottom and come back up, filling in all the washouts and getting a nice smooth wide road we can get off the hill to the back part of the property. Danny's Hill, the Big Road, and then Rob and Molly's Flat below their Deck and the Fire Pit Lot. I am going out today and take pictures so we will have historical BEFORE and AFTER pics. It should be a big week and then we will bring in water and electric to be shared by Paula, the barn,  and Danny -- should be a fun summer.

Danny and I then drove down through the trails and cut back overhanging branches and ended up at the big pond and since we had time before family night, we decide to try and catch some of the 13 Big Cats out of the Big Pond. They were cruising the banks so I rigged up a worm and bounced the worm in front of them and caught three!!! One was full of babies so we took her to the Little Pond and I filleted the other two -- Danny will see if he can deep fry them and if they are edible we will fillet the other ten as we catch them if we can --

Clean up to make more messes --

 ######################     DAY  138 OF  2021    #####################

Monday was a nice day but then turned hot so already I am trying to find shade work which is easy enough with all the trees on the property. I also worked on tomatoes gages to keep kritters from digging them up.  I replaced the really bad deck boards  I had removed from the pool deck but that work got hot fast so I  looked for a less sweaty job --

Danny and I went down and selected a big dirt mover to rent for a week (it ain't cheap) starting 5/24/21 so next Monday I will become a heavy equipment operator and we will do what we can to get the road down to the back part of the property fixed and level out the top of Danny's Hill so we can get a trailer moved in, run water and electric for him and Paula to share and level out the area below Rob and Molly's Deck, and the "Fire Pit" lot below the pole barn.

These little cages protect the roots--- It takes me about an hour to build a three sided cage from scratch and put on the coated chicken wire -- but I get to work in the shade!!

We counted 13 big cats -- we have been counting 11 --

This property came with these wide trails already cut which are converted logging roads - they make running the trails easy but there is a lot of mowing out there ---

 ######################     DAY  137 OF  2021    #####################

Yesterday was the first day Calvary opened for full service and masks were "optional" -- there was a good crowd and the Holy Spirit filled the Church! We had a new student in Sunday School named Reuben and has had good Bible trining so we had an "advanced" lesson which was terrific. We had Miracle Lake do the evening service and getting their audio to the live stream was challenging but the Lord provides.

Danny came out and we ran the property and looked at all the places we need heavy equipment to  cut new roads and level out where we will set up  his "domicile"on Danny's hill. We also ran out to the back of the property and did some trail work there -- 64 acres is a lot of property - thanks Danny for the help.

GOOD  SUNDAY   MORNIN'  5:02a   05/16/2021  FROM   JOHNSON  GAP :)

 ######################     DAY  136 OF  2021    #####################

Yesterday we woke up to the dogs going nuts over the trapped raccoon in Deb's garden and then the debate was what to do and how do we "dispose" our captive?? After some debate and several phone calls, Deb decided to let me release the raccoon onto  the back of our property. I loaded the raccoon into the Mule and drove out to the farthest I had gone but still several valleys away from our compound and at the creek I opened the cage and the raccoon shot out and ran off into the woods above the creek. I then crossed the creek over the suspect culvert and managed to get to the big trail going up the hill and to the fence along the back of our 64 acres- It is undeveloped property all the way north to Big South Fork recreational area!!  I will have to make a couple of more new trails but looks like there is a lot of unexplored new area RIGHT IN MY OWN BACK YARD!!!

I spent the afternoon working at the Big Pond and while I was "resting" I was visited by a big Tom turkey so that's probably who is eating everything from the feeder. I cleared some more  area behind the dam and am considering a tree house looking over the Big Pond, Deb ordered us a quick pop up tent for two to be used down there as well.

I hauled off the pool cover and removed the worst boards but there is a lot of work left to getting the Pool Deck reworked -- the Pool is crystal clear and the pump is working so we are  officially ready for summer with the pool open. As I was hauling off tools I snapped a picture of a big black snake coming off the pool deck -- Max was asking him to leave ---

Saturday 5/15/21

Guess who took the bait--- (and is going for a ride!!!)

GOOD  SATURDAY   MORNIN'  5:11a   05/15/2021  FROM   JOHNSON  GAP :)

 ######################     DAY  135 OF  2021    #####################

Woke up to barking dogs and a caged raccoon who has been digging up our garden. We set the trap in the middle of the garden and got the capture on video - so I will need to transport to somewhere more than 5 miles that also does not have residents. I built several "ground cages" to protect the tomatoes but we'll keep baiting the cage until we have removed the raccoon problem.

I have continued clearing out the fire pit area and organizing the pole barn bays -- I also re-mounted the box in the back of the Mule so that I can load the Mule but be able to open the box and get needed items out without unloading my tools first - I was going to open from the top but 1 good rain and the inside would get wet so I settled on 4x4 blocks to raise the box enough which seems to be a solution, plus I have "strapped" the box in so I van remove quickly if necessary ---

Still waiting on the big mowers and weed-eating and push mowing what I can -- sure is pretty weather and I will open the pool and work on the compound area until I can get some heavy equipment to bear on the rest of the property ---

The skies have been blue ---

GOOD  FRIDAY   MORNIN'  6:08a   05/14/2021  FROM   JOHNSON  GAP :)

 ######################     DAY  134 OF  2021    #####################

Wednesday was supposed to be early delivery of the Toro TITAN so after the "NO SHOW" we tried to contact the "Tracking Number" Thursday but had no success - Deb contacted Home Depot and it seems the "order" was given to Toro and the "expect shipment on Wednesday" was a mistake --- we are back to 5/21 thru 6/2 ETA ---

I spent the morning working on the burn pit lot and clearing out the briars and wild roses. I got out an extension cord and the electric chainsaw to attack the briars on the fence and right at the start I uncovered a Mockingbird nest with  babies so left that section alone -- the momma fussed at me all day but I managed to clear the rest of the fence on the fire pit side and then moved to the post and fence by the corral so all in all I got a lot done and will have a big burn pile or two - not near as big as the ones Danny had when he cleared out his property when he first moved out here.

Start of a really nice day

GOOD  THURSDAY   MORNIN'  5:17   05/13/2021  FROM   JOHNSON  GAP :)

 ######################     DAY  133 OF  2021    #####################

Wednesday was supposed to be early delivery of the Toro TITAN but ended up a "NO SHOW" -- I did get some major items off the "Honey DO" list -- we had a mouse in the kitchen and were looking for an entry point which turns out was behind the hot water heater where I had cut out a wall fixing a water leak from the AC unit -- its a long story -- anyway, I decided to clear out the corner where Deb has her garden stuff and where I had promised to build more shelves and uncovered ANOTHER water leak which appeared to be coming from the hot water heater so I decided to remove the side wall of the hot water heater closet and see what needed to be done -- I found the pipe from the AC unit had disconnected and I had not replaced the wall I had removed from the last leak! I removed all the insulation, repaired the leak, put up new wall to keep mice from entering behind the kitchen cabinets, installed a light in the closet, raked the floor, put back the closet wall, and put on a latch on the closet door to keep it closed -- THEN I put in several new shelves AFTER I replaced the toilet drain pipe from the Macerator toilets going to the septic! SO, when the dust settled yesterday I had (1) denied entry to the mouse (2) fixed a water leak (3) remodeled the hot water heater closet (4) installed a pull switch light in the closet (5) installed new 3" drain pipe and flexible joints (6) installed new walls in the garden shop and (6) put up several new shelves in the garden shop (7) AND helped Paula install an window air conditioner --- BUT the MOWER DID NOT GET DELIVERED!!!

Wall patch and new 3" pipe for drain (note the old 3" drain was a hodgepodge of joints and didn't quite fit so we replaced it all ---

Sunday 5/9/21 was a milestone day at Calvary. ...........  next Sunday 5/16/21: "Full capacity" &   "masks" will be optional!!!

Tuesday was a good day and a sunny day -- I started with burning trash and wiping down tables in the common area and then went to the pole barn and continued sorting and cleaning the drive thru bay and the bench and shelves for Automotive - Woodworking - Landscaping - Outdoor and working on the fire pit lot. I burned the big boxes and other miscellaneous burn items around the pole barn then hauled off cans and junk metal.

    Danny came out early and we went and set up the new 10 x 10 tent/shade at the Big Pond and then cut back overhanging limbs from the perimeter trail. GOT AN EMAIL SAYING THE TITAN SHIPPED AND SHOULD ARRIVE WEDNESDAY 5/12/21 {TODAY!!!}

Had a big Family Night - we had Hot Dogs which is a big favorite with this crew -- Rob and Nathaniel WRECKED THE DOGS FOR SURE------

GOOD  SUNDAY   MORNIN'  5:25A   05/09/2021  FROM   JOHNSON  GAP :)

 ######################     DAY  129 OF  2021    #####################

Saturday was a nice day but still sweatshirt weather in the morning. We did Hoskins first, stopped by the Co Op, went to Karm (Debbie cleaned out some boxes from the "MOVE") and Tractor Supply (fish food, deer corn, duck bedding) then Kroger's for Zevia, Paula's creamer, burgers and fixings for Sunday lunch today.

After a "meeting" with the "collective" we have decided the "property" needs a 60" Zero-Turn mower, we decided on a Toro TITAN at Home Depot and used Paul's 10% and Molly wrote a check from the Johnson Gap Buffer we have built up over the past year. Paula and I have been mowing everything with a push mower and I did the driveway and Danny's Hill with a weed eater so the Zero-Turn will be greatly appreciated. Still waiting on Northern Tool to fix the cable (on back order) for the rough cut Swisher pull behind but I had done 80% of the back 40 but it is growing so fast that I will have to run over the main trails and ponds before we can cut them with the Toro 60. Paula had approached Peggy and that's how it got started yesterday and then Deb and Peggy talked to Molly and Molly proposed we "borrow" the funds from the "collective" so I was asked to choose the best mower, Molly signed a blank check and Deb and I went to Home Depot and ordered the Toro Titan 60" Zero-Turn which will be delivered between 5/21 & 6/2 (hopefully). Paula is more excited than I am, she said she loves to mow and I told her, she will get to have all the fun she wants!!!

I have a small section left on the drive way and then I will pull posts and remove fencing on Danny's Hill and hopefully we will work out the water and electric for Danny's Hill by the end of May and get Danny moved onto  Danny's Hill -- maybe we'll also get to go fishing soon -- we talked about running over to Concord Park in Knoxville where Danny caught the 24 pounder last year -- but the weather has not been cooperating lately, we'll see what Monday will be like?!?!?!?

Then I will work on the burn pit and the lot on the east side of the pole barn --Next week I will start on the pool deck remodel -- busy, busy, busy ---

 ######################     DAY  128 OF  2021    #####################

Friday was warmer than Thursday morning but still chilly to start so I put on a sweatshirt and burned some boxes (Deb is buying "Stock" in Walmart and Costco, Fed EX and UPS is running out of boxes) and then I started working on the driveway. It warmed up some so I unloaded the sprayer from the Mule and then loaded up the self-propelled mower and went to mow the duck and chicken yard. After mowing the yard I was going to weed eat but my batteries were run down so I went to mow the ponds while the batteries charged. After lunch I finished the driveway and then mowed Danny's Hill with my little mower and did the hill down to the post.

All in all I got a lot accomplished as well as moving my miscellaneous boxes out of the common area into my shop, I'll sort and organize tomorrow.

 ######################     DAY  127 OF  2021    #####################

Thursday was chilly to start but turned off really nice. Deb asked me to take the winter plastic off the duck house and keep it from leaking -- I trimmed out the top with 1x4 to seal the joints and then I decided to put a shed style roof on it so I built a facade and used the same charcoal plastic roofing that was left over from the chicken coop so they are now a matched pair --   I also grabbed some scrap lumber from Rob and Mollys rough cut lumber that I used on the Koi Pond wall which then blends the Duck Hilton with the Koi Pond and the Chicken coup --- Didn't have to buy lumber or materials for any of the projects I have done this spring -- we've got 64 acres and the only money we've spent is for dirt and plants?!?!?!?

Still "de-weeding" the Little Pond and trying to get the Chara cleaned out of it -- Danny brought out his side-by-side and weed sprayer and we did the driveway from the mailbox to the compound. Danny and I have always worked together well, maybe next week well get to take the boat out and go fishing ---

The warmest place was the sun shining on the duck house--

GOOD  THURSDAY   MORNIN'  5:50A   05/06/2021  FROM   JOHNSON  GAP :)

 ######################     DAY  126 OF  2021    #####################

Wednesday was rainy off and on in the morning but then cleared up in the afternoon. I got out early before the rain and figured out how to load the Arctic Cat 4x4 onto the trailer by myself -- the issue was the 4x4 was in the pole barn and will not start so I first hooked up to the trailer and then positioned it so I could pull the 4x4 out with the Mule and then use the 4x4 winch to pull the 4x4 up on to the trailer with the winch -- I got the trailer in place then I pulled the 4x4 out of the pole barn with the Mule  out into the parking common area, pushed the 4x4 to the trailer ramp, hooked up the winch and then winched the 4x4 onto the trailer. Danny said to meet him at Shoney's next to Tommy's and we'd eat then drop off the 4x4 -- good plan but when we got to Tommy's they informed us they no longer worked on Artic Cat --

We took the trailer and 4x4 out to Danny's and unhooked, he will find a place to repair it -- we measured for his hot water replacement and will pick it up today.

Deb and I picked up Sadie and once we were back home I put together my design for the pond rake for the Chara and then got Sadie to drive me out to the Little Pond and tested the rake and discovered it essentially "floated" so we went back to the shop and I attached an old rake head for a weight which worked great when we tried the weighted version in the pond -- once I proved the principle of the rake then we drove over to check the Big Pond -- the corn is gone and the feeder is working there, not sure who is eating the corn but it is gone -- Sadie and I fed the catfish -- she counted 11 Big Cats --

Monday was the most miserable day I have spent in years and years -- Deb said Monday night, let's wake up Tuesday and start over by "re-entering the room" -- we did and Tuesday was a good day! I apologized to everyone because they all mistook my depression as "me being mad at them" so I told everyone, "I was not mad at you, I was having a bad day" and that seemed to satisfy everyone.

I continued on the pole barn but it was raining so hard in the morning that I had to come into the big barn --- then in the afternoon it became "Family Night" and so I cleaned all the table and chairs and cleaned the big barn "Common Area" and then went a got a bag of ice. When I got back, I showered and put on clean clothes and then, it was "Family Night" again -- LIFE GOES ON

I will load the 4x4 on the trailer and meet Danny for breakfast at Shoney's today --

 ######################     DAY  124 OF  2021    #####################

Monday was the most miserable day I have spent in years and years, as the saying goes - I had a BAD day -- I wanted to go fishing with Danny but the weather was horrible and fishing got rained out -- I decided to work on the pole barn and sort out the last bay. I made good progress so the day was not a total loss but it rained hard and I was  in and out of depression all day long, some days you just can't shake it and rain doesn't help!

The 4X4 won't start and Danny said take it into the shop, guess he doesn't trust my mechanical skills which is the smart thing, I fix a lot of things but then again I also break a lot of things trying to make them better -- that's life -- forgive me friends, my intentions are good ...

Today May 4, 2021 we will start Family Night again after being shut down since March 2020 due to Covid 19 -- the world will never be the same, just like 9/11/01 -- the world will never be the same, we must learn to "Move on" & "Make do" -- we're "Moving On" with Family Night and God has blessed us during this time of shutdown so we have PLENTY to "Make Do" with --

 ######################     DAY  122 OF  2021    #####################

Saturday started off cool but warmed nicely. We made our way down the hill to Hoskins for our Saturday breakfast then hopped over to the Co-Op for seed potatoes -- we then went to I75 Walmart to look for "clothes baskets" to plant the potatoes in -- Deb and I had the idea at the same time when she was talking about "potatoes cages" so we drove to Walmart and found three baskets that match the hammock -- God is GOOD that way!!!

I did a burn run and then some more organizing in the shop and pole barn. After lunch I then went to work on the ponds and spent a good hour just fixing the stupid mess I made by leaving baited poles out overnight -- the catfish that got damaged yesterday has died and the one I caught yesterday managed to tangle all the lines from all the poles in such a mess that it was a task to get the fish in to release it and I felt bad about catching them instead of making the pond better for them...

I then headed to the little pond and there is a big weed problem that the applications of the Cutrine Plus is not working as well as the last time I used it - perhaps I have "diluted it" to the wrong proportions to treat the Chara that is taking over the little pond. Part of the problem is that the water does not circulate so I am thinking the ultimate solution will be a fountain of some sort the moves the water and oxygenates as well -- I started "raking" it yesterday but there is a lot of material to get up out of the water ----

There's a lot of work to be done here --

 ######################     DAY  121 OF  2021    #####################

Friday was another really nice day which I spent most of the morning working on setting up the 12v sprayer which I am going using to treat the algae that has taken over the little pond. All my engineering comes from the school of hard knocks and failures -- yesterday was a good example of that because the way I strapped the sprayer into the Mule released itself with the first bump going down the hill (and there are a LOT of bumps on our hill) and then when I tried to spray the bumps had loosened an o ring seal  so I was leaking chemical so I had to get everything back to the shop again ---

Had to make a run to Home Depot and was back for Danny who came out after his Dr. appointment. We looked at the 4x4 and Danny said load it up and take it to the shop --- we went and fished awhile at the big pond but the only thing we caught was what was on the pole I had set out overnight. (This turns out to be a bad practice for catch and release as the fish that we catch are those that swallow the hook and that is negative for the fish so I will not set poles out overnight.)

I decided to put the roses in the ground since I had the equipment and the technique figured out on digging holes in gravel driveways up here on the hill at Johnson Gap. The "technique" involves power tools and good ole fashioned sweat so a cloudy day is best for sweating -- I planted 5 Leyland Cypress out back and Thursday I planted 5 Double-Knock out roses down the driveway to the back of the barn which is where our house is built inside the barn.

While I was digging holes, the wrecker came to haul off the abandoned car that was parked on Danny's hill and it sure looks better to not have the car sitting like an eyesore on the property. I will go down today and remove the rest of the fence and poles and start clearing out that area.

Deb took Peg and Paula out to lunch and a girls day out so Paul and I dropped off the hill to get a Burger King but Paul cannot get out and go in and with his problems with his hands he is not able to sit in the car and eat either -- we'll probably never do that again, plus the problem us "old guys" have with food running through us so fast -- the burger was great but Paul really had to struggle so that put a damper on the day.

Back home I continued working on getting the sprayer set up in the back of the Mule and when the girls got back I went to test the sprayer and found I had not sufficiently mounted the sprayer making it "road" ready (should I say bump and hill ready) so I checked the minnow trap, and took the trap with several small bluegill in it to the Big Pond. It kept raining off and on so I parked under a tree and fixed the sprayer and set out a couple of poles with worms and caught a catfish and a hybrid. Hopefully the snappers did not wipe out my fish population ---

Now don't that look better than an abandoned car?

The girls will put good soil in the holes for the roses --

GOOD  THURSDAY   MORNIN'  5:14A   04/29/2021  FROM   JOHNSON  GAP :)

 ######################     DAY  119 OF  2021    #####################

Wednesday was yet another nice day and I got my last two Leyland Cypress planted -- my problem was the issue that there was a heavy equipment gravel road running to our barn which was originally a heavy equipment barn before having the 2400 sq ft house built on the end of the 7000 sq ft barn -- the heavy equipment had packed the gravel and I was having to use a chisel to loosen the gravel where the old gravel road had been and it was going kinda tough, however yesterday I noticed an old concrete drill bit I had used for a Helping Hands job 15 years ago. The bit was about 15 inches long so I grabbed my big drill and I drilled holes through the gravel which turned out to be 6-8 inches thick but once broken up I could use my post hole diggers to finish digging out the big hole I was using to set out the Leyland Cypress -- the ducks and chickens thought the new loose dirt was great to play in so I had a pretty good work crew helping me get my trees in the ground.

I also went and worked on the top section of the driveway where the concrete transitions to gravel and will finish tomorrow. I am working on getting the 12 volt sprayer mounted into the Mule and powered up so I can spray the Little Pond and get that back in shape--- It was also interesting that I was able to move the big trailer with the Mule which is the BEST piece of equipment I have ever got to use and it is a lifesaver here at Johnson Gap. Wednesday was a Church day for me as well.

GOOD  WEDNESDAY   MORNIN'  5:43A   04/28/2021  FROM   JOHNSON  GAP :)

 ######################     DAY  118 OF  2021    #####################

Tuesday was another pretty day which I started by calling Northern Tool Service dept. They open at 7:00a and said to bring my mower in and they would unload it for me and repair the broken "engage" cable that broke when the pin came out of the hitch while I was mowing. I had loaded the mower with my winch Monday so I trimmed the mower to Knoxville and unloaded and then back home by 9:00a --

Deb needed a "break" from her "routine" so I took her to Oak Ridge and bought her a burger and fries at Eddie's and then some double knock-out roses (5) at Home Depot plus a couple of bags of dirt and river pebbles. We are making good progress on our back yard so I mowed the dog yard and the pool yard, planted the honeysuckle, a cantaloupe on the hill, and another Leyland Cypress behind the pool -- I had to get a chisel to work on getting the two Leylands that are where the gravel road was before they broke up the property and I cannot dig them with the posthole diggers -- not sure how this will go???

After supper I went to the Big Pond and fed the catfish for the first time since last fall -- I am doing a poor job of "pond management" but I will have time this summer and will restock both ponds after I get the algae taken care of ---

 ######################     DAY  117 OF  2021    #####################

Monday was our first really hot day as we got to 82 after last week having freezing temps and losing our tomatoes and cucumbers so today Deb replanted what the freeze had killed. We ran out to Jenifer's at Paw Paw Plains to get some FRESH milk. Jenifer milked on our way out and then transferred the warm milk to Deb's jars and we headed home -- Deb is going to make yogurt, butter, buttermilk, and we'll have some raw milk for cereal. This is a trial run to see if we want to have our own milk cow?!?

I went out to Danny's and we worked on finishing up the rework on the electrical on the boat -- Danny has cable tied everything and built a custom box for the front deck to house the fish finder and a 12V receptacle for his 750,000 CP plug in light for running on the water at night.

Deb and I took a ride around the back forty---

Sunday was another beautiful Lord's Day -- Sadly we had no students for Sunday School but Deb and I got to have a good conversation just between us and talking to each other is always good -- holding in false expectations about a relationship never ends well but when we talk, TRUTH is good medicine and heals relationships that honor TRUTH.

Shared my new NA NA Song with Abishi and Sean and had an incidental audience of Bruce and Tommy -- I also got the 4th verse yesterday during Steve's evening service. We'll see what God has in Store for the Na Na Song ---

GOOD  SUNDAY   MORNIN'  5:44A   04/25/2021  FROM   JOHNSON  GAP :)

 ######################     DAY  115 OF  2021    #####################

Saturday was still cold, and rainy. I did bills, Sunday School  lesson for 4/25, wrote my Tithe check, dressed warm and went to my shop. I fired up the kerosene heater and started reorganizing the shop into functional areas. I moved all charging stations together and cleaned the big tool bench where I set up another vise. This move led to sorting tools to logical groups and started tool sets and boxes on the small metal shelf and the open tools and hand tools on the workbench. Everything I had out for working on the big mower I put back in their proper places and then cleaned all the scrap. After Deb and I went Hoskins for breakfast I went to Home Depot and got some 3/32 cable and hardware so that I can upgrade the "engage" system when the present system fails after use, if it fails or not I will fine tune my solution and upgrade to the bigger wire to "engage" the blades...

Since it was raining, I pulled the Dodge van out and let the rain wash off the major dust and then I cleaned the brake dust off the rims with the wheel cleaner I had purchased just for those wheels. Nothing like wearing a raincoat to wash the car -- I managed to get a great deal of organizing and cleaning the shop so I consider the day was well spent in spite of the rain...

Here comes the rain....

Just the four of us dining on shrimp, fries, and macaroni and tomatoes - YUM

Watched the Avengers: Civil War last night and had a revelation that applies to the race war that is brewing in America today. Everything boils down to CHOICE and what MORAL STANDARD does an individual use as the justification of our beliefs. Abortion is "legal" by man's law since 1973 -- so the question we must ask is, was abortion "legal" before 1973? Is something made "legal" by man passing a man-made law  the  "Moral Standard" for "what-is-RIGHT"?? In other words, if government says "abortion is legal" is  that the "moral standard" and "justification" for choosing to take the life of an unborn child??? It is argued that "abortion" is a "legal right" of a mother to CHOOSE to terminate the life of her unborn child-- so what is the "MORAL STANDARD" that "justifies" taking an innocent life?  Civil War is an oxymoron since there is nothing "Civil" about "War" -- war comes when both sides think they are right and justified in their belief BUT - opposing ideologies cannot both be "RIGHT" and "WAR" never settles the issue of which side was "Right", "War" only gives the victor the power over their opposition to say "If you don't agree with me, I will kill you" hence the term, "Might makes Right"! WRONG -- Right is Right, and Wrong is Wrong, War kills and settles nothing. Because you can kill babies because you are "mightier" than they are DOES NOT JUSTIFY KILLING THE INNOCENT!!! Murder is when you take the life of someone against their will, murder is not murder just because you get caught or not--- Each of us has the "power" to take advantage of the weaker individuals among us so we MUST use some "MORAL STANDARD" to justify our CHOICES. Because abortion is "legal" it is not "moral" - because you choose to kill the unborn that is no justification for declaring murder as moral or legal" -- Choice must be based on a "Moral Standard" equally applied to all people, our Founding Fathers declared "All men are created equal" and they are "endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights" so it is clear these statements were using God's Law as the Moral Standard for determining TRUE EQUALITY -- this was further acknowledged with the oath to uphold the Constitution that ends with the phrase "So Help Me God" and why after years and years they reaffirmed this belief when they added to the pledge of allegiance to America, "In God We Trust" -- What "Moral Standard" to you have faith in to protect your personal liberties, a government that promotes "war" or God who sent His Son to save us, give us eternal life and offered us "PEACE", Life, Liberty, and the free choice to pursue Happiness?

GOOD  SATURDAY   MORNIN'  5:47A   04/24/2021  FROM   JOHNSON  GAP :)

 ######################     DAY  114 OF  2021    #####################

Friday was not as cold as Wednesday and Thursday but still cold. I worked most of the day on my rough cut pull-behind mower that had the "Engage" cable snapped when the pin came out of the hitch -- luckily the electrical was a plug but it turns out the "engage" cable is not just a wire but is a well designed & engineered system that is used to "engage" the blades mechanically from a remote location which was completely wrecked when the mower separated from the Mule while engaged...the fact that the blades were turning when the cable snapped allowed the cable to wrap around a pulley which is in an "impossible place on the mower" to work on, hence my slow performance on figuring out "WHAT" the problem was in the first place (beyond the obvious that the cable broke) and then my quest on "HOW" to fix it without tearing it all apart, including removing the engine, to get to the pull and damaged linkage -- I managed to make mistake after mistake all day long but each mistake taught me an "engineering" detail on designing a remote engage system -- no small feat I promise -- I ended up at ACE hardware and bought a $2 part that I think is the solution. I will test out my repair job today and if it works then I will buy new cable and beef up my solution which is acceptable but most likely only temporary because of the angles I have created by trying to stabilize the actuator which is stressing the cable itself but I was able to engage the blades without having to remove the engine !!!

GOOD  FRIDAY   MORNIN'  5:16A   04/23/2021  FROM   JOHNSON  GAP :)

 ######################     DAY  113 OF  2021    #####################

Wednesday was cold and Thursday was colder -- It froze overnight and got our tomatoes and cucumbers but it looks like everything else made it -- will replant next week -- I spent the morning working on the first bay in the pole barn to get me a work bench and shelves so I could move my weed eating station and the big vise out to the pole barn. I then used the vise to swap out the ball on the Mule to be able to hook up to the riding mower trailer -- I intended to take it out to the back and mow me a "green" to hit shag balls to and be able to easily pick them up. I managed to get everything in the first bay set up well and then figured out my sequence of loading the mower onto the trailer and getting it strapped down so that I will be able to tram the mower off the hill and out to where I will mow my green (s). I then went down the hill to the mailbox and got to weed eat around the mailbox - today I will get my drill bit set and mow the entry way by the road and then weed eat up the driveway --

After lunch Deb and I ran to I75 Toyota and our new spare "smart key" had come in and had to be programmed so we spent the afternoon in the waiting room but got the new key done so that I will not strand Deb at home by keeping the key to my pocket and drive another car to church --- I then loaded up the Mule with the weed eaters and the walk behind mower into the Mule after unloading the trailer and the riding mower and parking them in their area -- I decided to see if I could take the walk behind to the Big Pond and I mowed the dam and started to really get Paul a good place to fish. I made it back home in time for pinto beans and fried taters and some fresh swish chard greens and YES< I OVERATE!!!

GOOD  THURSDAY   MORNIN'  6:05A   04/22/2021  FROM   JOHNSON  GAP :)

 ######################     DAY  112 OF  2021    #####################

Wednesday was cold -- I dressed warm and then started doing warm jobs, burned the trash, and started spreading wood chips in the chicken yard. I finished off the Koi Pond and cleaned and mowed -- the backyard is in good shape for the summer so I will start on the pool yard and deck soon -- planted two of the Leyland Cypress on the back fence to block the view of the equipment barn but the third hole is almost solid rock where the old gravel driveway for the heavy equipment was. May need a jackhammer?

Danny was out about 11:00a and we started working on the boat in the barn but had to pull it out into the sunshine. We laid out all the wiring which is new from stem to stern except the 24V trolling motor which will get a new marine-connector/plug so that it doesn't have 24V to the motor continuously -- we also added the three "interior" lights for night fishing and put a fuse on the 12V side and then installed a switch on the console, Danny will cable tie and take up all the slack tomorrow if it warms up any.

Deb and I put out towels on the new plants because there was a freeze warning and as I sit writing the blog this morning the temperature is 28 degrees and has been for several hours so we probably lost some things -- this was a late season freeze on 4/22/21 -- so much for waiting until the 15th to plant, maybe the 15th of May!?!? Deb has worked really hard on our gardens so I really hate to see this setback ---

GOOD  WEDNESDAY   MORNIN'  5:18A   04/21/2021  FROM   JOHNSON  GAP :)

 ######################     DAY  111 OF  2021    #####################

Tuesday was still a little bit chilly so I didn't get as early a start as I wanted -- I am getting behind on all the projects that only I can do so everyone is disappointed in me because I don't give their project the priority each person feels like they deserve and when I stop working on one project and move to help someone else then I end up making someone mad, either because I didn't finish their project or I didn't do it fast enough -- I feel I am getting into a lose - lose mode because if I stop to do something for myself then I get blamed for being selfish and caring only about myself -- and everyone keeps giving me lists of things that I need to do for them because they don't know how to do it or they are too old, to weak, or not skilled enough so because I am able then it is my job to do for everyone what they can't do for themselves and if I don't get it done then I am the reason they aren't getting their projects done so there you go --- damned if I do and damned if I don't --- yesterday was the perfect example -- Deb couldn't plant her "step-ables" around the Koi Pond because I had not finished the benches and concreted them in yet - so I finished burning the benches, digging the holes, cutting the legs to length and then ran to Home Depot to get concrete and since I was out in the T100,  I stopped back  by Oak Ridge Hardwood for playground chips and they were running behind which made me run even later behind so I missed being back in time to help Danny with the boat so later when Danny had left and come back I cleaned up my mess in the back yard and got the benches set and some mulch laid out to at least make it look like the project was finished enough so that Deb could do her decorating around the pond, I made it out to where Danny was working on the boat and his arm was bleeding and when I asked what happened -- he let me know as only a brother can. I now feel I have disappointed everyone and when I act unhappy about it everyone says, "you've got to do it because we can't -- so hurry up because we want you to get done with our project NOW  so we can do what we want to do, after all, we're always having to wait on you or clean up your mess you make working for us" -- I am getting tired of doing "maintenance and remodel" for everyone else and I sometimes just want to grab my pole and go fishing -- but if I did I couldn't come back because everyone would be mad as hell because their project was still there waiting on me to finish them, after all -- no one else can do them and --- get the point??? Sorry, I am pissed at everyone being pissed at me when all I am doing is trying to help -- THAT IS THE LAST I WILL SAY ABOUT THAT --

Danny and I did get the boat rewired, running lights installed, new fish finder and transducer installed and wired and trolling motor mounted, new night fishing lights mounted and tested but did not get hooked up to the new switch we are going to install on the dashboard, and are charging the 24V tolling motor system.  Maybe some day we will fish from the fishing boat  --- or maybe we'll come up with another project to do to the boat and we'll just "dream" about fishing -- maybe that's why it's called  a "dream boat"

I did get the Koi Pond close to finished with the new benches custom built from scratch and now set in concrete and new playground chips so the dogs won't get their feet muddy and big rocks hauled in and placed and the backwash hose buried and the scraps hauled off and the site cleaned so it doesn't look like a messy workplace out Peggy's window -- maybe now everyone can sit by the pond and relax instead of me making so much noise and such a big mess in the yard

Maybe I will learn to work harder, faster, and cleaner and make someone happy because my dream is for someday I will get to go do something without feeling guilty about all the people I am disappointing because I'm not done with THEIR project yet -- Maybe -----

Monday was still a little bit chilly so I rounded up a jacket and gloves - started with the benches for the Koi Pond -- I had to cut 4x4 posts for legs and then I need to burn and sand and stain them when they are mounted to the tops -- then...digging on this hilltop (a big sandstone rock) is not easy but the benches will be permanently mounted and concreted in so "buckle up" and dig them holes! Danny showed up around 11:00a to work on the boat -- I was washing the Venza so I finished that and ate a bowl of soup Deb invented with some leftovers and it was delicious -- while I was working on the electrical, Danny hopped on the riding mower and took care of the front yard on Danny's Hill and the corral -- we decided to rework the entire front because the running lights on the bow is not working and the forward Garmin is not working either so I will completely run all new wire and put in some electrical panels and lights. The two big marine batteries we use for the 24 volt trolling motor were out on the charger -- I'll check it all tomorrow-- Danny left at 4:00p and I went back to the Koi Pond (handcrafted) benches.

 ######################     DAY  109 OF  2021    #####################

Sunday was the usual Spirit Filled day at Calvary, while many churches are closing due to "Covid" control, Calvary is still under the control of the Holy Spirit and Steve is still breaking the Bread of Life and Calvary is actually growing, and we have stirred the "baptismal waters" - in 2021 alone there has been more baptisms at Calvary than our previous church did in 5-10 years! We have worn masks, and social distanced but we have done everything to honor God and glorify His Holy Name and God has blessed us greatly so what is it that has made other churches close? I cannot answer that question but I can witness to the Power of Christ and putting God first in our lives -- God will provide!!!

Two regulars, Mac & Addi and it is such a blessing to get to learn with them -- it is hard to describe what a blessing it is to get to teach 3rd grade, thank you LORD for letting Deb and I enter into Your Labor and for entrusting us with these young lives to share Your Gospel with them, the more we give, the more we gain, God's Economy is Amazing!

What a back yard!!!

These two were a great help at the big pond -- I paid them with a new mineral block for them to snack on

Mac and Addi love to use the white board and they come up with some great Bible answers - kids teach as much as they learn, they continually amaze us with their spiritual insight that can only come from God, I think we as adults need to listen more---

Deb's view from her seat in the ensemble -- what's not shown in this picture is Amira McCall who was one of the best students we ever had in our 3rd grade at Calvary was singing with the Ensemble and did a great job -- it thrills my heart to see a former student contributing to "WORSHIP", makes me think we are doing something right with these kids that are growing up to be such fine young adults --

Saturday was the usual, I spend the early morning doing our 3rd Grade Sunday School lesson, get our tithe in the envelope, and then do bills until around 8:00a when we head out to Hoskins for our Saturday breakfast -- I am eating 3 eggs over easy with toast and Deb does a BLT. We stopped by the Co-Op in Clinton looking for herbs and I found some Leyland Cypress for $20 so I will get them for the back wall to block the view of the neighbors storage barn. The Co-Op didn't have the herbs Deb needed so we went to Erin's Meadow and got them there. Danny came in before lunch and we made a trip to Home Depot to get him a Ryobi Brushless 40V chainsaw and a new Porter Pancake air compressor for his shop. We then went to get an Enchilada lunch and it was really good. Back home and Danny and I loaded up the MULE and went to the Big Pond, Danny fished and I finished weed eating and hauled branches cut from the pond up into the woods. We will get a platform and chair for Paul so that he can easily get in and out of the truck and his fishing seat -- Danny wants to "stock" both  ponds  with catfish and that way we'll have plenty of fishing (and catching) -- the Big Pond is looking really nice and it will be a really nice place to picnic and fish in the evenings with the family.

 ######################     DAY  107 OF  2021    #####################

Friday was our 43rd Wedding Anniversary which we celebrated with dinner for two at Aubrey's in Oak Ridge --- the rest of the day was spent working on the Koi Pond and the back yard. I went out early and finished cleaning out the brush in the Big Pond and pretty much have the dam ready as a fishing dock so that I can drive Paul onto the dam and he can get out and get into his chair and be able to fish without getting everything tangled up and caught on everything which is frustrating, especially if its hard to get in and out of your chair. I did catch another big hybrid against the bank on the back side where I cleared out overhanging trees -- I also caught one of the big snappers and literally used the chainsaw to remove the hook -- nuff said.

I finished off the remaining wall behind the Koi Pond, made two bench tops and finished and stained them so today I will sink posts to mount them by the Koi Pond and then clean up the back yard and haul the scrap off. I will need to do some detail work and hide the backwash hose but the Koi Pond area is 95% done -- all using scrap lumber, we have bought a couple of plants and bags of river pebbles but the out of pocket (cash) expense has been minimal.

CELEBRATING 43 YEARS OF MARRIAGE TODAY 4/16/21

 ######################     DAY  106  OF  2021    #####################

Wednesday was spent on the Mule and so was Thursday but I also had a couple of visitors at the Big Pond yesterday. I had taken the weed eater and the chainsaw down to the Big Pond and was cleaning up around the pond and removing dead fall which has been a problem with the fish running into the brush and breaking the line so I removed several pieces and was cutting overhanging branches from the other side that was catching bobbers cast too far and I looked back at the Mule and I had two young deer eating in front of it. I kept still and made my way back to the chair on the dam I was setting up for Paul and the two deer made their way over to me to check me out and I was taking pictures and videos and then called Deb and did FACETIME and while I was talking to her the deer actually came up and licked the camera. Looks like we have a couple of permanent residents and Deb suggested feeding them corn so I moved the feeder Danny and I set out but had to throw the feed out because the electronics is not working on the automatic feeder.  I went back to the house and got Deb and by the time we got back the deer were bedded down just above the pond and ran away as we came down the hill towards them.

After the deer encounter I hooked onto the mower and started mowing the upper sections and it really looks great to have the tall stuff gone, especially the briars which had gotten very think in some places. I also mowed the connecting trails and made my way over to the Little Pond and mowed it and the lower delta just below it. Mowing the really steep portions was accomplished by establishing a pattern of straight up or straight down and no side hill cuts and I even cut down to the ditch where the Mule "kicked" Danny when we were trying to reclaim the area just above the little pond - the Little Pond area looks really nice when it is mowed!

Today Deb and I are CELEBRATING 43 years of marital bliss -- we are planning on dinner for two at Aubrey's tonight --- I still have the church gift card from Christmas HAPPY ANNIVERSARY DEB!

 ######################     DAY  105  OF  2021    #####################

Wednesday was spent on the Mule hooked up to the Swisher Rough Cut Mower -- The PERFECT team for mowing the cleared acres of our property. I got out early and hooked up and started mowing and mowed until lunch and then back out, gassed up and mowed until about 3:00P when I unhooked and went back to get Sadie - she LOVES driving the Mule and so I let her drive but made her do everything herself, including going down the steep hill off the property and then all the steep hills around the entire perimeter including the really rough "ups" and the really steep "downs" but she is now a certified Mule driver! I will mow by the Little Pond and the large middle section this morning and will work on the driveway as well but that is a job for the hand mower and a weed eater, I should be able to use the riding mower after a couple of more times getting everything picked up and the major rocks out of the way.

GOOD  WEDNESDAY   MORNIN'  5:38A   04/14/2021  FROM   JOHNSON  GAP :)

 ######################     DAY  104  OF  2021    #####################

Tuesday was another  busy day which included another set of boards around the Koi Pond, laying more River Pebbles around the pond and installing a home-made electrical box inside the deck to plug all the pumps and filters to so that there is only a single cord running to the porch. Deb and I bought another set of plants and vegetables so we bought more dirt. (we have 64 acres of land and we buy more dirt?) I also ran out to take Danny to get his truck that was in the shop and we picked up some more supplies for the boat electrical which I may get to today. My plan is to finish the Koi Pond and clean that area up so Deb can finish her decorating and planting around the Koi Pond.

On a sad note we had located the perfect trailer which had only been listed for two hours and a couple had got there first and of course they bought it as soon as they saw how well it had been maintained -- sure wanted that one and we could have moved Danny onto Danny's Hill at Johnson Gap.

GOOD  TUESDAY   MORNIN'  5:38A   04/13/2021  FROM   JOHNSON  GAP :)

 ######################     DAY  103  OF  2021    #####################

Monday was a very busy day for me that started well before sun up. I was working on an outside home made electrical box for the pond and then moved to a sunrise burn in the burn barrel in the back yard. I then transitioned into working on the screen door that had some rough edges on the chicken wire and I installed a board on the screen that can be used to open the door if my hands are full. Then I set up my tools out by the garden shop as I cleaned everything from around the Koi Pond and got all my tools out of the back yard, pick up puppy piles then mowed the back yard with the Ryobi. It was a little wet but I managed to get the pond area and the back yard completely clean before messing it up again. Rob and Austin have made a huge pile of "scrap" rough cut lumber from their remodel of Rob and Molly's place and Deb and I decided to do a little creative artwork around the Koi Pond area with the various widths and lengths of the rough cut wood scraps -- Deb said she didn't even care if they were different sizes so I started putting them up on the fence and the was behind the Koi Pond -- we'll see how this little project evolves. I backed the Mule up to the scrap pile and load the back with boards then drive around to the back yard and unload the scraps onto the fence and then just start placing boards at random around the pond. Danny showed up around 11:00a -- I was supposed to pick him up at the Chevy place where he was taking his truck but my phone was turned off because of Sunday when I don't use it and keep it turned off so it won't go off during Church -- So Danny and I then went and hooked onto the boat and moved it into Rob's stall since he is having his truck worked on as well, we are going to install some lights for night fishing and rewire some of the electrical. We ate some fried bologna sandwiches Deb had made for us while we  made our parts list for the boat and then we  took Danny's truck to the shop,  to O' Riley's for supplies then back home to work on the boat. Before working on the boat, we set out the feeder and loaded it with corn but the feeder doesn't;t recognize there is any feed in it so there's another repair job for me -- We then ran Danny home and I got back just in time for a turkey and noodle dinner Debbie had made in her Instapot and it was GREAT!! After supper I set a few more boards and then after a 13 hour day it was a shower and a movie -- what a great day to be alive!

Sunday was another blessed day as we got to have Sunday School and church with a capacity congregation with a sweet fellowship and then Sunday Eve we baptized 5. There is no way to explain the "JOY" of worship at Calvary but once you are washed in the Holy Spirit that is always present as Brother Steve breaks bread, you are filled with the Spirit and Joy will fill your soul. Sunday is a day that brings rest  and peace to our soul and that my dear friends, IS PRICELESS!!!

GOOD  SUNDAY   MORNIN'  5:56A   04/11/2021  FROM   JOHNSON  GAP :)

 ######################     DAY  101  OF  2021    #####################

Saturday turned off cloudy, rainy, and colder than the last few days so there was nothing much happening. We went to Hoskins for our Saturday date and then went to Home Depot for rocks and dirt but forgot the dirt when I bought a plant for the Koi Pond and got distracted, Deb grabbed six Home Depot buckets for her "bucket garden" idea, so I bought 6 brand new, perfectly good buckets and cut the bottom out of them, I had to jump in the truck and run back down to Home Depot for the dirt...

I don't know if it was the rain or what but I started feeling bad around 11:00 with a sort of nausea and I couldn't concentrate or get any energy to want to do anything. I didn't eat any lunch and after a very short nap I went to try and figure out why the Arctic Cat would not start so I spent the rest of the afternoon finding out "why?" there was gas coming out of the carburetor and the 4x4 just kept on cranking and wouldn't start. I spent a couple of hours teaching myself about the Arctic Cat 400 carburetors and how to fix the gas overflow. Another hour was spent getting at the carburetor  and taking pictures so I could get everything connected back after I remove the carburetor and rebuild it to take care of the clogged jets and stuck float. I know it wasn't the battery because I had put it on the charger before my nap.

Deb threw together a cabbage, potato, and kielbasa soup and that made me feel great, I ate 3 bowls and wished for more. Today is Sunday and I will get up and dress for church, make copies of the memory verse for Sunday School and start my day at church.

GOOD  SATURDAY   MORNIN'  5:34A   04/10/2021  FROM   JOHNSON  GAP :)

 ######################     DAY  100  OF  2021    #####################

Friday turned out to be a beautiful day, Deb and Paula went down to Willow Ridge to get some more pond plants as I was doing sanding and finish cuts on the Koi Pond Deck. When they returned I had cleaned up my tools and I jumped in the T100 and went to make a fuel run to get diesel, gas, and oil for all my equipment. I grabbed a couple of hot dogs at I75 and drove on out to share them with Danny. Danny had just finished mowing his property so we sat on his deck and ate hot dogs! It was a really good morning and we discussed plans to work on the boat Monday after I pick him up at the Chevrolet place where he is going to have his truck looked at --

I returned home around 2:00P and loaded up the MULE with my chainsaw and weed eater and started working on cutting brush on the other side of the backyard fence and clearing the steep hill behind the propane tank. I ended up cutting the remains from the previous electrical fence and cleared the brush that had gathered against the fence. I ended the day by felling the big ugly tree that was blocking the view of our big Mimosa about halfway down the hill -- I will get the MULE and a chain and pull the trampoline on down the hill and disassemble it --- maybe by the end of spring I will have the hill on the north side of the house cleared down to where we will try to put a garden ---

What a view from our back yard--

 ######################     DAY  099  OF  2021    #####################

Thursday was rainy in the morning and cloudy in the afternoon so we went grocery shopping in the morning and then after lunch I set up my tool boxes so that I could close them if the real came back. Robbie has made a stack of rough cut lumber scraps from his house remodel and I am going to finish off the Koi Pond with these "scraps", what I don't use for projects will go into my stove next winter.  I will finish off the Koi Pond today if it doesn't rain me out and my next project is the boat and the pole barn which will easily take me a week but I have some big plans for the pole barn this summer. Can"t wait --

 ######################     DAY  098  OF  2021    #####################

Wednesday was the 4th GREAT DAY since Resurrection Sunday and all the major issues with the Koi Deck are resolved, the pump is going through the pond wall via a bulkhead feedthru to the filter which is under the deck and I built a hinged portion using old door hinges which were removed from Peggy's remodel when we moved her old door and installed a new one! Old door hinges are now the new pond hinges - waste not want not -- the waterfall was reconnected and Deb settled on a bubbler for the little pump so we are circulating the water and it is crystal clear. Deb has decided where to plant the elephant ear and I will use soil from the new deck holes Robbie dug yesterday for his porch deck. I will finish the sides of the Koi Pond with scraps from Robbie's rough cut lumber he is using on his house.

 ######################     DAY  097  OF  2021    #####################

Tuesday was the 3rd GREAT DAY in a row! I finished the bulkhead mount to connect the pump to the filter which I have placed UNDER the deck around the back side of the Koi Pond. Deb and I got everything working and set in place and then I tacked the deck boards which will be "Hinged" so that we can open the deck above the filter and backwash and clean when maintenance is required. That will be my task today once I figure out why the pumps quit working last night? (it's always something) I did get everything working so after supper I cleaned up the pond area, put tools back in their boxes and we faced the swing towards the Koi Pond. Then I went out and gassed up the riding mower and did Danny's hill and in front of the pasture corral -- all the fruit trees are in full bloom. Spring is especially welcome after 2020 Covid 19 and the "long dark winter" -- Johnson Gap has been a blessing in many ways and it still amazes me at the GOODNESS OF GOD!

Sunday was a beautiful day and Monday was too!! Got out early and did a "burn" and then bought some ground contact lumber to finish the pond deck. I got all the framing done and deck boards cut so now I am doing the final mount of the pump which will be under the deck. I am designing a lift up cover that will give us access to the pump to "backwash" when needed. I made the feedthru cut and will finish the deck top today.

Sunrise and early burn.

 ######################     DAY  095  OF  2021    #####################

Sunday was a beautiful day and full of sunshine. Resurrection Sunday was indeed a blessing as once again we are reminded that JESUS IS ALIVE! The empty tomb and the empty cross are full of HOPE! We only had Addi and Mac for Sunday School and the  RESURRECTION is my favorite lesson -- usually we have already gone over the Passover and the Exodus which are lessons necessary to understand Palm Sunday, the Triumphal Entry, all of which adds the Ultimate Significance to the Death, Burial, and Resurrection during Passover pointing to Jesus as the Lamb of God and the Perfect Sacrifice. Easter is not about "chocolate bunnies", it is about the Sacrificial Lamb who was slain for the sins of the world! The church was "at limit" for attendance and the Service was anointed! Thank you JESUS!

 ######################     DAY  094  OF  2021    #####################

Saturday was yet another COLD day as it was 26 when we got up --

We did our morning devotionals and then we did our Saturday breakfast at Hoskins and then we ran into Oak Ridge for groceries. I unloaded the car and changed into work clothes and made a trip to Home Depot for some ground contact lumber to start our Koi Pond Deck and waterfall platform which will keep the water oxygenated for our Koi. The design is surfacing as I am starting on the far end first which must be the strongest to hold the waterfall platform but yet not cover any of the actual pond itself --

Good morning from Johnson Gap --

Danny -- Today (Sunday 4/4) we are having Easter Lunch @ 1:00P after church -- Deb made those beans you like --- so send me a text message to let us know how many burgers to throw on the grill for you !! Bring the boat if you want to and we'll park it out by the pole barn workshop and I can install lights and upgrade the wiring! Don't forget to send me a text, if I don't hear from you I will call around 10:30a between Sunday School and Big Church --- See ya at the house!!! (Deb told me three times to call you yesterday and I got busy working on the pond and forgot -- one track mind -- so send me a text this morning)

GOOD  SATURDAY   MORNIN'  4:57A    04/03/2021  FROM   JOHNSON  GAP :)

 ######################     DAY  093  OF  2021    #####################

Friday was another COLD day as it was 28 when we got up and the water in the duck tubs was frozen so I decided to work inside on my Resurrection Sunday Lesson. I had "stored" my Resurrection Sunday Lesson in a box and of course it took me this whole week of going through my writings to find it but yesterday I went through the box under my shop desk and it had all my files that survived the "great purge" from my Arrowwood office and Johnson Gap office re-organization. I think that things are sorting themselves out and I will move my "special lessons" back into the house into the filing cabinets designated for "Lanny Files" which I will put my "Lessons" and I'll keep my songs, lyrics, and commentaries out in my "personal files" box in my shop.

The sun came out bright and started warming up around 10:30a so I cleaned up my RIGID portable roll around tool box and populated it with tools and supplies and loaded it into my T100 and headed off to fix the "squirrel" problem at Danny's after loading up the 8foot ladder. The gas tank leak is holding up and I still had a full tank of gas so I am really thrilled still about that one, and the T100 is running great. I drove out to Danny's and I stopped to look at the trailer for sale at the Union County line but it has a lot of work to do and we want one in good shape and useable NOW. Still dreaming about a spring fishing trip so that is still on the table. I jumped back in the truck and it started right up again so I drove over the hill and fixed the squirrel siding problem -- sure enjoy having my truck running and my Rigid tool box back in service -- life's little pleasures --

Grabbed a chili dog on my way home and then I started working on the pond and platform for the waterfall, the design stage and building stage is as much fun as sitting back and enjoying the finished project, like is said, it is life's little pleasures that make things exciting on a daily basis, God is GOOD!

The waterlily survived the freeze and the fish will get active now

Working on the pond and waterfall platform

Spring is going to be here big time next week --

Thursday was another cold day and I got a call from the church -- we are going to show some video of the Passion Sunday to begin the Easter Service so I had to get the clips downloaded into ProPresenter -- it was a pleasant ride to and from the church in the Venza so my morning was spent at church and then I spent the rest of the day going through tool boxes and arranging supplies in my various boxes. As soon as the weather warms again I will start on the pond waterfall and decks around the back of the pond to cover the filter. Danny and I are looking at what he can pull onto his site after we rent a bobcat and level his spot, I can't wait to "move some dirt.

 ######################     DAY  091  OF  2021    #####################

Wednesday was another rainy day so it was cleaning and organizing in the shop all day after I spent the morning doing my books which are now complete for April 2021. That is the first time with the new budget that I had the month taken care of before the month started. It has been since March of 2020 and so it has been one year to get everything on autopay -- still no money but at least I have a roof over my head (a very nice roof) and food for my tummy (very good food and plenty of it) so things are good. I'm still happy about fixing the leak in the T.100's gas tank!!! Now I am looking forward to some dry weather and sunshine so I can work--
