Thursday on the Farm... May 5

Quiet Time...

“Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:26

Several of you have asked for the one legged frog story...
well, years ago, when our boys were quite young we lived in Southern California.
A favorite pastime for Lanny and the boys was to go to the flood control and skateboard, do boy things and hunt tadpoles. One day they purposely went down with a bucket in hand to catch and bring some home.
We had a little pond in the back yard and they put them in there....
they were so excited watching them grow legs and lose their tails...

In no time we had frogs EVERYWHERE!!! In the garage, all over the yard, climbing the walls...even now and then IN the house...
for awhile Lanny tried to find them and shew them away when he had to mow,
but before long it was impossible to even try!
The grass HAD to be mowed so he had to grit his teeth and JUST DO IT!
We occasionally found a dead frog, but often we would find one
with a leg or two missing yet STILL ALIVE...
they are resilient little critters...

I think there were still frogs when we sold that house and moved to Tennessee... there may STILL be frogs there! :-)

When Robbie saw the tadpoles in our pond this past week he was reminiscing and we were all in hysterics. He should have told this story because he is a comedian to the bone. It was quite funny and a little gross
but a great memory for the three of them for sure.

*****
Dad was up and rarin' to go :-)
Got him situated and made him two Biscuit Roll Ups...

Then I sat down with Maggie and Murphy...
Cuddling but not knowing it...
Maggie thinks that's my leg :-)

Lanny joined us a little later...
so did Max...

When I got up at 6 to start my day job
Maggie jumped in my warm spot :-)

Made the bed, fed the fur kids and headed out around 6:30...

Gabby and Penny,
on a roll!

I fed Daddy an Omelet and then Lanny and I headed down to Walmart.
I figured I could find some inexpensive hanging plants there.
Their plants were mostly in awful shape but these weren't bad,
and not expensive. The pots are cute so I can re-use them
with different plants next year.
I do like Petunias tho. I try to get mostly native perennials
but occasionally a colorful annual sneaks in...

Picked up a couple things for Paula as well...
A Miniature Rose and Salvia...
And Lanny wanted that yellow Asian Lily...

Saw my Bull Buddies having a meeting on our way home...
Meeting at the hay bale :-)

Lanny painted the post at the bottom of our drive and put the house number on it... people have a HARD time finding us for some reason :-)

Coconut and one of the Pearl Whites...

Paula had washed Mom's hair while we were gone
and the shower drain was leaking...
Dad had fallen a while back and that probably knocked it out of whack...
but my Jack of All Trades Husband can fix anything!!!

We ate left over Meatloaf Sandwiches for lunch
and sat down for a snooze...

Lanny headed back down the hill to get some materials to fix under the edge of the shower. He had to remove some wall board.
I headed out back to fertilize all the plants with some new fertilizer I bought ...
figured I'd show you around.

I need to paint these chairs (I need to paint a LOT of stuff... I will get around to it)...
Just a little sitting area behind the patio lattice...

Looking out at the Backyard...

The Patio/Porch is out our Living Room Door...

Lanny is putting a gate into the garden picket fence and will finish putting the chicken wire around the back... Chickens and Gardens DO NOT MIX :-)
The mint is growing well... usually it will seek out the water
and cascade over the side into the pond...

That is pollen mixed with frog spawn on the top of the water...
and I have added pond tint to filter the sun... it helps keep the algae at bay...

The Cranberry Viburnum!!!

More Mint!

Lanny's brother Danny bought me the Pink Flamingo last year...

The food shelter... keeps their layer feed dry if it rains...

The chicks are still sticking to the coop mostly...
I sure wish they'd GROW UP!!
and leave the "nest" :-)

Sugar thinks she can get something out of the feed bin...
no such luck!

Rosemary, some Yarrow and the Christmas Camelia in the big pot...
This is at the gate going from the Chicken/Duck Lot to the Human/Canine Area :-)

Just a few more views of the yard... we keep the dogs and feathered kids separated...
this is the dogs yard... and ours :-)

Fish Pond...

This is the view from the far corner of the back yard
looking toward the porch/patio.

Mom's bedroom window is here so she can see most of the yard...
and keep an eye on her dog :-)

For Supper we had Sauerkraut and Wieners with Potatoes and Carrots...
Cornbread and Garlic Toast... Pudding for Dessert...

Mom is still in her room...

Lanny went out to pick up the puppy piles
and hollered at me to see this cute frog!!

I put him in the planter to keep him out of Maggies' and Murphys' mouths!

So, dishes are washed, kitchen is clean, puppy piles are gone :-)
The chicken and duck feed is secured for the night.
Lanny is ready to call it a day and so am I...
Jammie time!

We will finish "The Longest Day" this evening.
Mom says she is feeling so much better.
I am sure that a nice warm shower and clean hair helped a little :-)
Thank you for your continued prayers!

Goodnight Y'all...
God bless and Sweet Dreams!
