LANNY'S LOG:SEPTEMBER  -  JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Tuesday was rain on-and-off all day from the hurricane that hit Louisiana this weekend. I spent all day sorting my shop and was able to finally clean my bench tops off and sorted into big containers all the different "types" such as "tools", "supplies", "hardware", "electrical", etc. All my "sports" are in one corner and all my hardware is going onto a shelf and separate drawers and boxes sorted into sub-groups. There is plenty of room in the shop so I will do a couple of more "storage" shelfs up on the wall and keep all the "active" items down where I can easily reach them.  The master plan is to get the shop "insulated" before winter so my wood burner will keep the shop bearable in the freezing weather and then install a little air conditioner for next summer. I went out during the breaks and hit a few practice balls -- the old swing is slowly coming back and occasionally I hit really good shots like I used to, I know its "strange" but I like to mow grass and hit golf balls so I am in "Hog Heaven" here at Johnson Gap because I get to do both!  Started playing with making movies out of my iPhone "Photos" so the rainy day actually was a lot of fun and then we had my favorite " Debbie-from-scratch spaghetti" so I have to declare the day a success!

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Monday was our first early morning fishing trip and my exceptions were high but in the back of my mind I had questioned if the hurricane coming would turn the fish off and so when we were able to launch at first light I expected the fish to be really turned on but there was almost no activity and when we got to our "spot" there was very little surface activity. The last time we were here there were several breaks and fish were moving up and down the channel but yesterday we saw a lot of fish but only Danny caught one, we spent the day trying everything in our tackle box and we had skipjack for bait, all the equipment worked great and the fish were just not biting. We were able to navigate and locate the "holes & structure" for the places we had found on the map but the fish were not biting -- when we were loading the boat back up there was a big bass boat that had launched the same time we did at first light that was loading back up with us and he asked if maybe the hurricane coming had turned the fish off and it looks like that is the case because we were both on a lot of fish but didn't catch any! The really good news is that we had no problems with any equipment and got out at first light, there was no reason we didn't put any fish in the boat EXCEPT "the fish just were not biting!" It was a totally great day of fishing and the morning and the lake was marvelous -- Danny did catch a 4 pounder so there was some more "filets" added to the freezer! I guess we established a good data point: "No matter how perfect the day, you probably won't catch fish if a hurricane is heading your way!"

Sunday was another great LORD's Day and I certainly get a huge blessing out of our 3rd Grade Sunday School class!!! Today Danny and I are going to get an early start and try to sneak up on those big cats --- I'll post pics tomorrow, I called Danny at 5:00a and he had been up since 3:30a! The boat is ready and we'll get on the water at 1st light -- I am excited ---

AUGUST  29,   2021      5:15A      SUNDAY ---

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Once I RETIRED FROM THE SECULAR WORLD Thursday, Friday and Saturdays are my 3 day weekend. Sunday is the first day of the week and in order to get the "week" started right I spend the whole day Sunday "worshipping" and resting to get ready for my 3 day "Retirement" work week, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. So my Retirement Week is 3 days of "work" and 3 days of "weekend" separated by a day of "worship"!!! My 3 day work week consists of Monday: Brothers Day, Tuesday: Family Night, and Wednesday is a long day as I work 5 - 9 at the church doing the sound for our Live Stream Mid-week Service. Retirement is a lot of work but someone has to do it.  Saturdays are Hoskins breakfast and yesterday I had to go to the bank and deposit the Johnson Gap checks for September but when I got back home I cleaned the shop some more and then hit some balls to my practice "green" with my 9 iron then explored hitting my five iron into the newly cleared area that borders our neighbors property below the hill across Peggy's Creek. I am able to use the same practice tee so I will now clear out a couple of Kudzu covered trees to be able to see the landing area and that will be my "long iron" practice "fairway". I then decided to go to the Big Pond and just sit and enjoy and on my way out I fed the fish but only 3 Big Cats came to feed -- we decided to take them out and over the summer we have caught them here and there and there are two in Danny's freezer and I have eaten 1 and I tried to keep some on a stringer but the turtle got them and one day I put two in a bucket of water but when I got back from lunch they were dead so I tossed them over the fence -- so now there is only 3 remaining --- I then went and hooked on the Swisher and started mowing on the Upper Perimeter from the Steep Hill to the entrance to the Big Pond. I then cut back some trees and obstructions coming down the Steep Hill then back home to sit in the AC and do bills. The good news about my "retirement" is my work week is as much fun as my "weekend" !!!! God is GOOD!!!

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Thursdays are a special day in my week once I RETIRED FROM THE SECULAR WORLD and then Fridays are the middle of my 3 day weekend. I spent yesterday just "piddling", I cut and moved a couple of trees that had fallen onto places I mow, I hit a couple of golf balls and experimented with hitting my "Spoon" in the Grand Meadow and ended up finding a couple of spots where a Par 5 and and Par 4 are a possibility along with the Par 3 (existing practice green) -- went over to the Big Pond and did some weed eating at the dam but the fish were not biting. I also cleared off the work table and work benches in my indoor shop and was toying with the idea of moving all fishing tackle and sporting equipment back inside again --

In the afternoon Angela and Dominique brought out their whole crew to see the horses, ducks, chickens, fish, dogs, cats and take a tour of our 64 acre paradise -- We jumped in his big 4WD Toyota and saw deer in the Grand Meadow and then turkey when we drove down by the Southwest Creek -- made the whole loop except we did not tackle the Big Hill since it had rained last night and I had his whole family in the truck so I kept onto the easy trails.

Today (Saturday August 28, 2021) I will start insulating the indoor shop and start winterizing it. Saturday is our Hoskins Breakfast Date so I will come back and then start on the indoor shop. No panic - after all this is day 3 of my 3 day weekend ---

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Thursdays are a special day in my week once I RETIRED FROM THE SECULAR WORLD and moved up here to our 64 acres of Heaven-On-Earth on Johnson Gap. I still work at the church on Wednesdays and Sundays, there is Brothers Day on Mondays and Family Night on Tuesday which means "obligations" on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of each week but then Thursday starts my Retirement 3 Day Weekend of Thursday, Friday, and Saturday! Yesterday I got up and mowed the chickens and duck lot around the pool after planting two new Rose of Sharons and then went to hit balls to my practice green with my 9 iron and my old swing is now returning since I have started a daily practice routine  again. My old TEMPO has returned and with it my SMOOTH SWING and yesterday I hit several balls in a row right at the flag and the TEMPO was SILKY and each good shot made my CONFIDENCE grow. It is a personal thing but I have always enjoyed hitting a good golf shot, either on the course or on the practice tee, a GOOD GOLF SHOT is a GOOD GOLF SHOT and to be able to repeat them is a SKILL and does not happen "randomly", it is a result of self discipline and  LOT OF THOUGHT! After hitting a few golden shots on the practice tee I then pulled out my guitar and decided to use my "pick" to play "Grain of Wheat" (2nd fret) and "Standing in The Presence (5th fret) and both those songs played with a pick instead of finger strumming took on a whole new and fresh sound and flavor. I played those two songs and then put the instrument back in the case and I literally just stood and smiled at how good the morning was going and it wasn't even 9:00 yet. I went to the pole barn and the TORO caught my eye and just then I got a message from Deb saying she would make me some wheat toast and I said yes so I gassed up the TORO then went and got some "Sparkly" and wheat toast, wrapped the toast in a napkin and went out to mow on the TORO -- I headed to the shady deltas along the Southwest Creek and I set the blades at 2 1/2 and mowed for an hour or so and went and mowed on the Commons sections between the Grand Meadow and Peggy's Creek. I made it back to the Pole Barn and decided to give the TORO a good washing and that took me to lunch. After lunch Deb asked to go to Earth Fare instead of a nap so we jumped in the car and headed to get some grains for some new bread recipes she wants to try and then we stopped by COSTCO and got an ice cream. Back home and Deb fed the Dogs and I repaired my Old Milwaukee Battery Operated Saber Saw that I had dropped and broken the blade guide. I think it will hold up this time, I really love that Old Milwaukee saber saw and it is worth the effort to save. Next I got out the blower and did the common area and my shop floor, I cleaned the work bench and decided to go sit in the AC for the rest of the afternoon but got sidetracked by Robbie asking for "names" for him to research to guide his group on all this crazy government, vaccines, and covid crap that is going on, I said that if you want to know the truth, you have to start with  Jekyll Island in Georgia and understand why and how the Federal Reserve got started and which led to America going "bankrupt" which led to "Birth Certificates" and "Maritime Law". Robbie did not know the first fact about how all this is the Great Battle between Good & Evil and the importance of knowing that GOD WINS! Gave Robbie some names and side notes then went to the AC and then it was eggs, bacon, biscuits & gravy!!! Yum, Yum, Yum so after cleaning the "puppy piles" it was a shower and a movie. Thursdays are always "impromptu"and "enjoyable" -- now I have 2 more days left of my 3 day weekend!!!

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Wednesday was a strange day -- an emotional start after hitting practice balls first thing and after sitting in the Mule just trying to process the whole event I decided to just "Move On" and I remembered that my T100 had a flat on the left front and I needed to put on the spare and get the tire fixed. However, when I got the 17" tire off the rim and put on the 15" spare, I saw that the 17" was going to have to be replaced so I told Debbie I was heading to C&D and was going to have to spend a couple of hundred dollars and headed out -- when I got to C&D they only had 2 similar "All Terrain (AT) tires in stock and the "Cheap" tires would have to be ordered and no solid delivery dates and the price of the "Cheap tire" were only $30 each less than the $198/per tire in stock so I decided to bite the bullet and get two new tires and put them on the back and move the good back tires to the front. I called Deb and said I was about 3rd or fourth in line and it may run through lunch. A few minutes earlier Danny called and he was going to go to Oak Ridge to buy a small chest freezer for "our fish" {preparing for rain and bringing an umbrella on a sunny day} that we are going to catch --I told Danny I was in Oak Ridge getting new tires and I would call him when my T100 was pulled into the stall and he could meet me in Oak Ridge, I called Deb and said Danny was coming in to Oak Ridge and we would do lunch so I definitely would not be home for lunch. I got tires and met Danny and since it was after 11 he wanted to get lunch first and he wanted "Mexican" -- we went to Home Depot and looked at small "Chest Freezers: 7 Cubic Ft. $229 & 5 Cubic Ft. $189" so Danny decided to "clean out his freezer" at home and when it gets full of fish he will look at a chest freezer then. I headed home and called Debbie who was going to pick up Sadie and we actually passed each other, me going up the hill and her coming down --

I got home and worked on the Mule checking battery and fluids and the battery had a full charge and started right up. Next I went out on the TORO and worked on cutting down the property line area the neighbor just bush hogged with his new mower and the TORO on 4 1/2" setting made great progress and I cleared a significant portion on the "corner" where the briars and brambles had not been cut for several years and was 7-8 ft. high and very thick! I then mowed up to the Grand Meadow and widened the edges there and a storm cloud threatened rain so I headed the TORO to the house. After supper I went out and worked on the Fire Pit lot with the TORO and made more progress there as well. I also got the small trolling motor and another battery installed on the back of the boat so that we can try out the "Frozen skipjack" Danny bought at Edgemoor Outdoor over by Bull Run.

All in all it was a "good day" --- it ended up with an "emotional understanding and shared apologies" which had a special sweetness, the world and our advancing ages and special circumstances can really put a strain on "relationships" and I am truly confident that not only will we survive, we will THRIVE!!! God IS GOOD!!!

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Tuesday was another small jobs day, I made a run to Frost Bottom and got gas and diesel in Oliver Springs and I took out the Toro and cut the 3 greens in the Grand Meadow and connecting fairways @ 2 1/2 --- I also found my old "Stroke-the-Ball" swing and started nailing the flag like I used to, it felt good to be 74 years old and hit the ball as good as I did at 47! (I got down to a 7 handicap before I quit keeping score) -- I mowed the Grand Meadow side of the creek then when up on top and mowed Danny's Hill. Once I parked the Toro I grabbed a battery for the Ryobi and went and mowed the back yard.  I had put a charge on the battery in the Mule and went out with my newly sharpened chain saw blade and cut the pine that had fallen in the Grand Meadow - I also picked up something on the road because now I have a flat on the left front on the T100 which I will have to get the flat fixed today. I will have another small jobs day since Danny has banged up his knee from a fall so hopefully he will be able to go hunt the big cat next Monday.

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Monday 8/23/21 was an unusually good day considering that it was the perfect day for "early morning" fishing we had been waiting for weeks now and Danny was not feeling well and opted to stay home. I did a couple of chores for Deb and went on the roof of the house (our house is a flat roof 2400 sq. ft. house but inside a 9000 sq. ft. barn) to do a inspection to make sure the metal roof is no longer leaking onto the house roof because we have had some pretty hard and heavy rains the past two weeks -- everything was fine so now everyone feels better, we have had some serious issues moving in and getting all the "leaks" resolved so periodic checks are necessary ---

Deb then cut my hair and then her dad's hair and we went into Oak Ridge to big up some flakes for the chicken coop and return milk jars to Wendy that is making a milk run today. I got back home and decided to work on the rotating mount for the big Lowrance which we somehow got into sleep mode and don't know how to get it out!?!? First things first so I removed the old mount and had to cut a hundred cable ties to get a little more wire for the Lowrance to enable it to rotate. My "lazy Susan" design worked great so I next hooked up power to the Lowrance and like all men, I started pushing buttons and low and behold, I got it to working again!!! I then mounted Danny's poles and replaced the paint stick with a thicker piece of raw oak and generally cleaned the boat so we should be all set now for a good fishing day next time we go out.

I then took the mule out to the big pond and thought I'd see if the big cats were biting and sure enough I caught three, two I cleaned and the third I put back to see if we could catch him again! I had my chain saw so I cut some fallen trees that we keeping me from mowing my edges and then I decided to fell the trees blocking the left side of my practice green. Kudzu has taken over and killed one and had taken over several others so I decided to fell them and open up the view to the practice green so I can tell if I hit the left side or not while hitting practice balls. It was rough getting through the Kudzu and undergrowth to get a good position to fell the trees, I knew that there was a sequence they had to be cut and I want to fell them a certain direction so I sharpened my chainsaw blade and charge two batteries and I successfully fell all the trees right where I planned and it opened up the green perfectly. So now the boat is ready to fish and the green is ready to hit practice balls to -- I made it back to the house in time to shower and get ready to meet friends who wanted to give Deb a "birthday dinner" at Aubry's so we met them at 6:00P and didn't get back home until almost 9:00!!! For not getting to go fishing in the boat, it turned out to be a successful day anyway.

Can you tell I  love mornings at Johnson Gap????

Good friends make you smile!!!

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Sunday was a good crowd at church and we had a good Sunday School as well. After lunch and our nap I went and installed the batteries into the boat and we now have 25V for the 24V trolling motor and it will give us 55 lbs thrust for sure. I got all my poles ready and new tackle tied and then I went through the fishing boxes and got everything packed and ready to load onto the boat. On the way home from the evening service I called Danny and he isn't feeling well so Brothers Day is cancelled for tomorrow. We will try our new "Drift Weights" next time we go out, they are packed in my fishing back pack. I will work on my shop this morning -- Danny and I have real talent in messing a shop up!!!

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Friday was a mixed day which makes this such a fun adventure and then Saturday was almost a repeat of Friday. I cleaned in the shop until 8:00a when we head down the hill to Hoskins for our Saturday Breakfast Date and we both had BLTs. We then went to Food City to shop for Sunday Lunch which will be Sloppy Joes this week. When we got home I went back to cleaning the shop and then Danny showed up with supplies to finish designing our new Drift Floats for trolling the channels for big cats. We did several design attempts and found the right combination of weights, bells, and BBs to achieve the desired buoyancy and drag angle to reduce snags -- getting something right in a tub of water is one thing but the proof will be when we take it onto the water! Deb brought us lunch again and when it got 12:00P it was "nap time" so I went in and Danny and JR headed home, it gets too hot to work in the shop in the afternoon so we work in the cool of the AM then head indoors for the air conditioner. After lunch I went and mowed on the Grand Meadow and it is looking great. I mowed until 3:30P and then clean up for supper, after supper I went back and cut a couple of trees that block the left side of the practice green. I took out two big ones, one was already dead with Kudzu and it looks like I will need to take out two more, the Kudzu is taking over.

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Friday was a mixed day which makes this such a fun adventure -- we started the morning with Deb requesting I mount the grain mills onto and abandoned table Molly used to stage houses to sell when she worked with her mom flipping homes. Deb and I laid out the parts and evaluated the table for making our decision how to get the most stable mount with the simplest modifications (Occam's Razor) and we cut a 4" long piece of 1x1 and mounted it with three screws and then mounted the grain mills to the additional piece --- Q.E.D.

I then worked in the pole barn and set Rob up with a push mower and weed eater so he could mow his yard and trim the fence around his entrance. I pulled the batteries from the boat and got them on the charger and Danny showed up with the big battery he was charging at his house and a 4A charger and battery maintainer. Danny also wanted to make a "Drag Float" for trolling using a DIY project using a 3/8 plastic tube and a "yellow" wire nut -- both of which I had in the scrap pile and so we engineered our version and Deb brought us out tuna fish sandwiches for lunch --- Danny went to Hobby Lobby for parts and I took a nap with Deb --- After the nap I jumped on the Toro for an hour then came back and mowed on the back yard which with all the rain and heat had almost gotten out of hand and required two mows to get it cut good, Deb and I jumped into the pool and cleaned it then Deb went to make supper as I finished mowing. After supper I went and mounted the new anchor basket on the boat and then called it a (good) day---

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Thursday was Deb's Birthday and we managed the day so that we were able to go on a Birthday Date -- we ended up at OUTBACK (in Oak Ridge) which is  our favorite place for Steak and Shrooms and last night we added Shrimp --- we also ended up with a complimentary dessert so we had the perfect meal to celebrate her 49th birthday!

I spent the morning washing the TORO after I tried to take it out to mow but the overnight rain had made the hill to slick --- so I came back to the compound and washed and cleaned the TORO -- After washing the Toro I decided to work on the boat and the first project that hit my eye was the Remote Mount Transducer for the new bow mounted fish finder. Our prototype mount worked well but we had used a soft piece of wood to build the proto "U Mount" so I located a good piece of hard oak and I built a slightly modified bracket and re-drilled holes in the "retractable" pole that the transducer itself is mounted on in order to accommodate the "pin" we use to hold the pole mounted transducer in place. After working out the final design and testing it on the boat, I removed the new oak "U" mount and I waterproofed it with some paint and stain, and I added another coat of paint on the pole also, the design can now be declared a "SUCCESS" and it will be permanent -- the prototype worked great on the water Wednesday and now the final design should give us many hours of good service.

"U" Mount and Transducer Pole

Used hard OAK and bigger screws and enlarged the pin holes so the pin is easily engaged (the pin is also "tied off with monofilament")

Took the Mule to the Big Pond and saw two whitetail ---

AUGUST  19,   2021      5:16      THURSDAY ---

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Brothers Day got moved to Wednesday this week due to the rain Monday and Tuesday -- however our "early" fishing trip was not to be as both Danny and I slept in until 6:00a and we did not get on the water until almost 9:00a -- that is hardly being on the water at "first light" BUT we had a great day from a logistics and equipment standpoint. We had the boat loaded the night before and all we had to do was "hook onto" the boat and head out once Danny got to Johnson Gap. We drove to the boat launch just above Melton Lock and we "launched" in a matter of minutes without any issues - Danny lines the trailer up to the launch, then gets in the boat and gets everything ready on the boat as I back it to the water after unhooking the boat from the trailer. I then back the boat into the water deep enough to "float" the boat off the trailer and then park the trailer. Danny gets the boat started and picks me up at the dock by driving up to the dock and I simply stepped onto the bow and we were off fishing. From the time we pulled into the boat launch until I had a hook in the water was probably only 10 minutes or so --- we went to the spot I had preselected using the Navionics App and it is a great spot. Danny and I have designed and built a "remote" transducer mount for the new fish finder mounted on the front of the boat and it worked great! The only issue with equipment was that one of the batteries for the 24 Volt system was partially discharged and we only had 18 volts to run the 24v trolling motor but we were able to "troll" the channel twice and Danny caught on big cat and we also found a great abandoned dock and old house boat where I put several blue gill into the bait box, two of the bluegill were eating size as well!!! We got to witness 3 "breaks" where either white bass or stripes had driven the bait fish to the top and were feeding and I managed to get 1 cast into the break but no fish -- that was how our first day on this great spot went -- we saw lots of fish and there was plenty of bait fish and structure located but we will have to get our bait and lures presentation  sorted out to what will catch these fish we have located. I was a idyllic location and day, we caught a few fish but it was a totally great fishing day so we will return  and I am sure we will catch some big fish there. We went back to the dock around 1:00P after it got hot and we used up all the trolling motor and the sun came out really hot and if there is no shade you have to keep moving or you will burn up. Danny pulled up the bow to the dock, I stepped onto the dock, backed the trailer into the water, Danny drove the boat onto the trailer, I hooked up the boat to the trailer then pulled us under the shade and we got the bait ready for the road and headed home with fish in the cooler and there we no problems -- everything went great and we will work out the tackle needed to catch fish. I managed a couple of photos but we were busy fishing ---

All kinds of structure --

Brothers Day got rained out Monday and Tuesday but there is no rain on the radar so we are going to try this morning -- Danny and I both slept in so we will not do a sunrise launch but still we'll get to scout out the new area above Melton Lock and we'll do a little fishing anyway -- plus we'll get to see how the new equipment and the repairs to the 24v system works and get more training on the big Lowrance and learn how to read maps and navigate with it. It's all "fishing" and maybe a little "Catching" ?!?!?!?

Monday's Brothers Day got rained out, so I ended up doing inside office work and working on the shop -- after lunch we took a short nap and Debbie started cooking so I     went down to the courthouse and took care of Paul's stuff, registration and handicap placards, etc. I tried to work outside but the heat was impossible - I did manage a box for the trolling motor plugs, and I went and shagged balls but that got me overheated so it was back into the AC for the rest of the day.

Then the rain moved in----

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Sunday was a big Family day, Robbie is now 51 years young & Sadie was baptized @ Calvary by Brother Steve -- Calvary has meant so much to Deb and I and being part of the Calvary Family is just a glimpse of what it will be like in heaven and being part of the bigger "Kingdom Family" -- thank You God for our families. Our new 3rd grader class is awesome and we are getting to have a good class every Sunday and that IS A BLESSING, the kids are so ready to learn and the Holy Spirit shows up and leads both teachers and students in a Spirit-filled lesson!

Danny brought the boat out and we worked on the new Lewis Boys Custom "Transducer Mount" and staged the boat at Johnson Gap so we could get onto the water early UNLESS we get rained out -- it is now 5:41a Monday morning and the radar shows us on the edge of a rain storm so the Melton Lake fishing trip may be postponed... Called Danny and he said its raining pretty heavy at his place and the radar shows a good bit of weather heading our way -- best laid plans again!

The pictures below were taken Saturday morning, there was 360 degrees of chemtrails and when that happens we have bad weather for a week, Saturday night we had 3" in a few minutes, Sunday we had thunderstorms and rain, and now Monday AM Danny and I are delaying our fishing trip because of rain storms and the weather forecast has literally, rain all week!! It can't just be a coincidence that when the skies are full of these trails that a week of bad weather always follows ---

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Saturday was Hoskins for breakfast and Food City for Sunday Burgers then back home. I changed clothes and took a load of trash to Frost Bottom and then into Oliver Springs for gas and ice. We had picked up a cantaloupe at Food City so I cut it up and it is the best one we've bought all year. After a little lunch and a quick nap, I headed out into the insane heat and figured out how to straighten the end of one of the Toro blades that had found a fallen  "T" bar  property stake. I was able to use a pipe and a big present and straighten the blade so I made some Lemon ice water in my big jug and went to mow until 4:00 when Deb puts "supper" on the table. Danny will bring the boat out today and eat burgers and then we will be ready for an early day Monday. We are planning a trip to Melton Hill Lock & Dam and will try to find catfish just above the dam.

We had a big rain last night, it always happens after the sky is full of chemtrails?!?!?!?!

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Friday was a busy day helping Paula replace her AC and then I made a run out to Danny's to mount the new fish finder. We decided to invent our own custom transducer mount instead of mounting it on the trolling motor. Danny went off to rummage around his storage shed and came back with a paint roller that screwed onto a metal extension pole. I cut the handle off the paint roller and mounted the transducer onto the modified handle so now the transducer is "removable", we then decided on using a "U" shaped board and cut the "U" the diameter of the pole and then pinned the pole to the proper depth. We added a spacer to keep the pole from "rocking" after the mount was screwed onto the bow and the pole "pinned" at the desired depth. All we have to do is pull the pin and the transducer can be pulled back into the boat while moving to a new location. Danny will do the "cable" run and final mounting since we had to start over with the front wiring box because we put in a brand new fish finder and are remote mounting the fish finder away from the trolling motor which we installed "plugs" that allow us to disconnect the trolling motor from the 24V which we discovered had been incorrectly wired and explained the low power problem while running the trolling motor and why the batteries were not holding charge. Danny bought a new charger so now he can rapid charge the batteries separately so next time out we should have plenty of trolling motor power. It was very hot and I had to leave around 2:00P and went home and floated in the pool with Deb, I didn't mow until after supper and I am trying to get the Fire Pit lot reclaimed from the Kudzu! The problem is the steepness of the lot -- the Mule works by itself but I can't turn it around in the small lot -- I'll figure it out and keep it maintained instead of letting it get over run with Kudzu.

It is so pretty up here in the mornings --

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Yesterday we made a run to Costco in Knoxville to replenish supplies and then in the afternoon I worked on the driveway, drove out and brought the Swisher back to work on the Fire Pit lot, and I did the driveway mowing that I could with the Toro, Paula does the main and I do the edges, I think I have pushed my limits to just that, the limit that I can mow with the Toro so the rest will be weed eater and push mower. Danny sent a picture of the white turkey that is in and out of the goat pasture and informed me we have a new fish finder to mount on the boat -- I plan to go out this afternoon and help mount it and prep the boat for our trip to Melton Lock on Monday.

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Yesterday we spent the morning in Knoxville getting Paul fitted for a new "Power Wheelchair" which we are all excited about but mostly Paul. Peg went with us so it was a pretty tiring morning going up and down elevators and having to drive all the way to Downtown Knoxville. We stopped at Shoney's for lunch and when we got home I received a message from Calvary and had to go into Oak Ridge for the afternoon. Got home at 4:30P and had a small bowl of soup then we made an early evening of it --- I had found the Warranty Plan that Danny purchased for the inoperable fish finder so I will file a claim tomorrow.

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Tuesday was a quiet slow day, Deb and I made a run to Aldis to get supplies for Family Night and on the way we got into a discussion about Robbie's viewpoint on TRUTH and a post he made on "Facebook" that got Debbie upset about the questioning of Christianity and in particular a quote from C S Lewis from his atheistic days and Robbie talking about how Christians have been lied to about the TRUE Bible and books that were not included in the 66 books of the authorized "Canon" -- this discussion led me to Study and locate verses and names and I now have a list of 22 books mentioned in Scripture but cannot be found -- anyway I spent a good part of the day in study, then after a short nap, Deb started cooking for Family Night and I took the Mule & the Swisher out to the Grand Meadow and mowed some behind the Little Pond as well --- it was HOT, HOT!!!

It was a small number for Family Night but the Chili was great!!!

New section the neighbor cut with his new tractor and bush hog
I will hit it with the TORO and it will green up real soon--

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Monday was Brothers Day and we went out in the boat on Norris Lake. Danny has property that borders Big Ridge State Park and there is a launch almost at the end of his driveway. We first got the front fish finder working (but later we had an accident and broke the cable to the transducer, we are having a lot of trouble getting the trolling motor and electronics on the front of the boat working correctly but we'll keep trying. The trip was a success from the point of view that we were able to locate "structure" on a map and then navigate to those points on the map and fish them -- we did not catch fish but we were able to find our way to certain points on the map! I left the house after gathering fishing tackle from all over the pole barn and my shop so what was supposed to be an "early" day turned out that I pulled up on property at 7:30a but then we didn't get on the water until almost 9:30a -- the boat launched well and we moved to the deep water spot but no luck with Danny's "garlic chicken" bait that he used to catch the other big cats with and my hand made Sabiki rig was not working as desired --- best laid plans, etc. I had intended to take photos but we always get busy and I forget to take any pics. We fished until 11:00a and then when we got back to Danny's he pulled out the catfish he had cooked from our last trip and it was delicious! I then showed him how to screen mirror his phone to the 65" curved big screen he has and it worked great so he was able to watch fish being caught.

I took the Swisher out and mowed on the Upper Grand Meadow but got surprised by a little rain burst and had to come back to the house, the Mule and Swisher don't work well on steep hills and wet grass!

On the way to Danny's ---

Sunday was another Spirit-filled day at Calvary. I love teaching 3rd grade and our class yesterday was excellent as this group is so hungry for God's Word, I feel like I have prepared a great meal and everyone cleans their plate and asks for seconds! God is GREAT!

Today is Brother's Day and we are going to try an early day so I will be getting dressed and head out very soon! Hopefully there will be fish pictures tomorrow!

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Saturday was a mixed day of shopping for Sunday dinner at Food City after our Hoskins breakfast date and then I jumped on the TORO and "finished cut" the section adjoining where our neighbor had ran a bush hog over his tall weeds so I made it look "Joined" --- I then cut the three shaded areas by the East Side Creek and started on the North Section above the Little Pond. When I got back to the Pole Barn I washed and cleaned the Toro and filled it up with 100%, ready to mow some more, there's always somewhere to mow on 64 acres.

Took Paul to Home Depot and worked on the toilet to get a better flush --- project was a success as Paul loves getting out and I love the toilet to flush with a "w-h-o-o-s-h" This place is a 64 acre paradise and it takes a little work but its well worth every drop of sweat!

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Friday started with me replacing the "Fill Valve" in the toilet, the old one was whistling and making funny noises so we made a run to Home Depot yesterday and I bought a new valve and so first thing in the morning I "took a knee" before the Great White Throne and fixed the problem. I then took out the Mule and the Swisher to cut down the lower section that adjoins our neighbor who bought a new tractor and bush hog and cut the 7 ft. weeds on his property yesterday so I went out Friday AM and cut my side. I looks really good to have that all opened up so I will run the rough cut over it and then the TORO and keep it looking really nice! I ran the Toro over the lower sections and part of the Little Pond and then cut the Practice Green.

Paul decided to take everyone to Calhoun's for supper so the boys and Peggy had catfish and Deb and Paula got  huge salads and everyone had a really good time -- Thanks Paul!

Taking a knee, praying for healing

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Thursday started out a little extra foggy this morning but burnt off fairly quickly. I had a big weed-eater day  but since I was working in the fire pit lot it doesn't look like I accomplished much -- my neighbor showed up with a new tractor and bush hog and was cutting his tall weeds that adjoin our properties, Logan had the big tractor so he had always cut that portion but with my 44" rough cut pulled behind the Mule, I have been busy just doing my weeds --- it looks real nice and I will go out today and freshen my side of the property as well.

Deb and I went to town and picked up supplies and took her old sewing machines to Habitat and I bought a HUGE watermelon at Aldis that is delicious so well be up all night going to the bathroom (ha ha) -- Danny's truck is ready to pick up so I ran out and took him down to the shop but had to get back home to finish a project I had left in a big mess and then I cleaned up and we had Shrimp and Buttered Noodles which is my new favorite! For a special treat I also bought a couple of Cherokee Purples at a local stand and they are great!

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Wednesday started with waking up from a good nights sleep and praises on my tongue. We forget how good it feels JUST TO NOT BE SICK -- I was up at 4:00A and felt like it was going to be a good day, it was -- I got my weed eaters going and got the top section of the driveway done and the driveway swept (finally) and it looks so good. I then had a lunch of Ramen noodles enhanced by a Debbie concoction of peppers and onions which was superb, then a quick nap before loading up the push mower to go and work on the Big Pond ... the water level is the lowest I've seen it since we have been at Johnson Gap but I headed home early just ahead of the BIG RAIN -- God is GOOD.

Deb had picked up Sadie and made hot dogs for supper and then I took Sadie home on my way to church --- I asked Sadie about her deciding to go to Baptism Classes and she has a wonderful witness and it thrills my heart to know my Granddaughter is going to be my Sister in the kingdom as well -- God is GOOD.

The chickens are getting along so all is well at Johnson Gap.

Tuesday's (8/3) post got us locked out from our Johnson Gap because "spam robots" reported this page and recommended our blog be suspended because of "possible spam" -- I had posted a margin note from my bible on Psalm 21 that had the name "(Former President??" in it and I also posted a 2017 prayer to JESUS thanking Him for " Your hands guiding our nation back to greatness again " so after a review, we were re-instated ----

We also got three new "Easter Eggers" added to our flock and that was a show as they established the new "Pecking Order" -- Of course Willie is the boss!!  I got a good part of the driveway with my  weed eater before maintenance was required so I had to make a run to Home Depot for parts ---

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Monday was a "Bad Health Brother's Day" as Dany and I had to face a couple of "physical mountains" caused by our age and our health as we both stumbled up and down  the rocks down at Melton Lock trying to get a good fishing spot -- Danny did catch two big "Blues" ( a 3 lb. & a 4 lb. catfish) but we fell all over ourselves trying to land the fish and getting back up the hill to the truck. I cannot function in the heat after a certain point and Danny and I both do not have the strength we used to have so we had a long "Brother" talk about growing old but the Holy Spirit calmed us both down and I think He made the AC a little colder in the truck to get us cooled down as we headed to find another fishing spot with more shade and "handicapped" access (Ha Ha). We came to the agreement that after all the water that has gone under our 74 & 78 year old "bridges" that even though we aren't as strong as we once were, that at least we are getting to be "Brothers" and that we are there for each other! We agreed that we will take the circumstances life throws at us and we will figure it out together! What happened in the past is history but what we do "Going Forward" is our Future -- we can't change the Past but we can work towards making our Future Better and personally, its time for us to retire and enjoy just being Brothers. All I can say is "Catfish Beware, the Old Lewis Boys are coming to get ya!"

8/3/21 TUESDAY - PSALM 21 PROPHECY

Quiet Time...

“Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ.”

Galatians 6:2

Last night, Monday, August 3, 2021, I had the best nights sleep that I can remember since moving up to Johnson Gap. We sold everything and moved into the Johnson Gap compound with the intent of providing for Deb’s parents who are 90 and 91. Our oldest son and his wife and Deb’s sister also sold everything they had and through a cooperative unified effort the family was able to purchase 64 acres and 3 barns just north of Clinton, Tn. Only through God’s Divine Providence can something of this magnitude become a reality and I find it significant that last night we watched The Chosen and the Holy Spirit impressed upon me that the world will try to define us by our past but the only thing that matters once we have decided to follow Jesus is what we do “Going Forward”. Last night I was able to pray “in Spirit and in Truth” and when we went to bed I laid my head on the pillow, went fast asleep and I woke up fully physically and mentally refreshed. This is significant because last night one of the episodes was about Jesus and a crippled Samaritan. The Samaritan realized Jesus was the Messiah and confessed his transgressions and accepted Jesus who departed from him that night by saying “Sleep well tonight” and the next day the crippled Samaritan awoke from a full nights sleep and was crippled no longer! I awoke after the best nights sleep I can remember in years and I immediately before moving from my bed, raised my hands in praise to God and then I dressed and went and joined Deb on our “Devotional Couch” and when I opened my Bible where I left off yesterday I read a note I had written at the top of the page where I was to start my reading of God’s Word and it reads, ”10/10/14 Fri +++ Woke up this morning thinking about JESUS”. What are the odds that I wake up from the best nights sleep in years thinking about “The Chosen”, praise God for the good nights sleep He gave me and then open my Bible to where I left off reading yesterday (I had a bad health day Monday) and the first thing I read is a comment written in my Bible over 7 years ago that says “Woke up this morning…” — this is God’s Providence!

But wait — there’s more!

The page that I opened to is page 755 in my Scofield Study Bible and the passage on that page is Psalm 21. I started reading Psalm 21 and on 8/3/21 Tuesday, the Spirit gave me the following “UNDERSTANDING” of Psalm 21—

Psalm 21:1-7 Verses were separated out with the note, “Is Trump the anointed king of Liberty??

Psalm 21:8-12 Verses labeled “God Wins” !!

Psalm 21:13 Verse separated from 21:12 with the note “2022  January”

Psalm 21: 9 Verse note”Hell is the recompense of EVIL”

Verses 8-12 are additionally label with their respective months: 8-Aug, 9-Sept, 10-Oct, 11-Nov & 12-Dec making them 8/21, 9/21, 10/21, 11/21, & 12/21!!!

Verse 13 then becomes January 2022

The next thing the Spirit impressed on me was to study Psalm 21 as “Going Forward Prophecy”

AUGUST 03  THE JESUS QUESTIONS   JQ#23  “What do you want Me to do for you?”  (Matthew 20:32)

LIVING FOR JESUS Daily Prayer

JESUS I come praising You for UNCONDITIONAL LOVE and Lord for all the prayers lifted up for our country in Your Name, the ONLY Name that heals and forgives. Lord, I know it is Your hands guiding our nation back to greatness again and Lord, even though there are still those who desire to control us with their lies and deceptions, I can see that when these issues are “brought to Light” then the quality of our lives will grow exponentially!  Truly “all things [do] work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.”  Lord my prayer today is simply to grow our Love for You and for others.   IN THE NAME OF CHRIST  AMEN

THE JESUS QUESTIONS

Jesus is always Teaching and then Jesus holds a pop quiz test to see if we are paying attention, this spiritual pop quiz is not to punish us ——— Jesus never spoke or did anything while on earth that did not have a purpose AND A PLAN FOR OUR GOOD associated with it — Jesus was and always is Teaching us about THE FATHER and each Lesson has “ETERNITY” written all over it! On a rare day that I miss my morning devotionals, I still commune with God throughout the day, hour by hour and minute by minute ——— by late in the afternoon I understand that living my daily life for Him is my best devotional and is “LIVING THE WORD!” God proves daily to us that He has a “Plan” designed specifically for all ——— Jesus is making us stop and think about “purpose”, not only God’s Purpose for our lives but also Jesus makes us stop and think about what “purpose” do we have for God! This is a very complicated thought because we are all about “me, me, me” and we are so lost in “me” that we overlook HIM and the Truth of God that God is not just a genie that suddenly appears to grant us “3 wishes” — for the attitude that God is a “genie” is the essence of “sin” in itself. God is not there at our “beck-and-call” to give us our petty selfish desires, no, God has a Plan for our lives and part of that Plan is for us to trust God to work out His Plan in our lives —hence, like Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane  we should pray: “Father, if it is Your will, take this [trial] away from [us]; nevertheless not [our] will but Yours, be done.” (Luke 22:42) I am amazed at how God will cause several seemingly unconnected different things to come together on a single day and make His point that He has a Plan for us and is in control of every second of our lives. For example in September of 2016 I ended up in surgery and it is obvious that in critical times we demand that God be on our side but we fail to see on the sidelines how everything is working together for good for on that same day of my 2016 surgery there was a man having the very same surgery, his surgery was done just before me by the same doctor went very well abut my surgery had some complications and we never plan nor pray for complications for ourselves! However, the man that had the successful surgery was in the bed next to mine and he observed my complications. The next day he was able to talk to me privately for he had previously experienced the same complications years earlier in his life and he shared with me what he had done to successfully resolve a 25 year problem that had been misdiagnosed by several doctors. The interesting result of my “complications” and the man’s “success” is that the same diagnosis the man several years ago is the same diagnosis that I am currently getting and I have been trying to resolve the same problem for 10 years now! The point here is that God had planned for both of us to have surgery the same day and God put us in the same room so that God’s will for our lives would be done — and now what was a “complication” is becoming (through GOD’S WILL) a “cure”. Also on Sept 1 Oswald Chambers wrote in his journal “My Utmost for His Highest” “…it is written, “Be holy, for I AM holy …” (1 Peter 1:16) and then Oswald wrote in his commentary: “We must continually remind ourself of the purpose of life. We are not destined to happiness, nor to health, but to holiness…the only thing [in life] that truly matters is whether a person will accept the God who will make [us] holy.” Oswald asks almost the same question Jesus is asking in JQ#23 “What do you want Me to do for you” (Matthew 20:32) when Oswald points us to an intimate, close-up and personal relationship with God as Oswald asks: “Do I believe that God can come into me and make me holy?” Therefore we should keep our focus on God’s Divine Purpose for our lives and accept that God can use “complications” and turn them into “cures”!!!

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Sunday was "promotion Sunday" at church and we got a new class of 3rd graders and it looks like we are going to have a really good class for 2021 - 2022 3rd Grade Sunday School. There are 3 girls that come every Sunday and another two that are quite regular so we will be able to maintain some lesson continuity using the excellent lesson plan -- it is such a blessing to be part of the class that is in reality taught by the Holy Spirit and we all "learn" as we sit under the leadership of the Spirit and study God's Word -- we serve an AWESOME GOD!

Danny joined us for hamburgers and we had a nice visit after lunch, we have an awesome family as well!! Danny and I will make a  trip today to Melton Hill Lock and make a run at skipjack and then try to find a good catfish creek.

I love that the children share so openly and notice that everyone is engaged in the lesson!

AUGUST 02  THE JESUS QUESTIONS   JQ#23  “What do you want Me to do for you?”  (Matthew 20:32)

LIVING FOR JESUS Daily Prayer

JESUS, what Peace it is to know that regardless of any earthly circumstance that we find ourselves in, that You are able to carry us through. As we move closer to You and our eternity, You have proven that You will give us the strength to face whatever situation we must face in this “valley of the shadow of death” as long as we keep our focus on You! Our strength comes because we know that You are right here with us and the Peace of knowing  that You are with us cannot be described by mortal tongue. Lord Jesus, I trust You in ALL THINGS and I praise You for Your very near Presence as I awoke today. Lord, my prayer is not for me but for those that are praying for me, bless them. Lord Jesus, keep us all drawn to You for You ARE PERFECT PEACE!   AMEN

THE JESUS QUESTIONS

Jesus made this very definitive statement about “who” He was and “why” He was on earth in response to a question Thomas (His disciple) had asked “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?” (John 14:5) Jesus had previously Taught the disciples by example as John writes about the last Passover Jesus shared with His disciples: “Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God, rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself. After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded.” (John 13:3-6) Jesus could not have been any clearer in His Teachings to His disciples ——— Jesus had come to “serve” and to “sacrifice” Himself, Jesus did everything on earth because of God’s purpose for His earthly life and now Jesus was preparing His disciples to continue the work of the Father. Jesus had just told the disciples “I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” (John 14:1-4) Jesus has Taught by example that they were to “serve” others, Jesus stated that His work for the Father was to be “sacrificed” to reveal God’s Glory of the Resurrection from the dead on the “third day” and now Jesus says that He is preparing a mansion for them in “My Father’s house” and yet Thomas was so blinded by the world’s fear of death that Thomas pleads, “how can we know the way?” Jesus has always been patient with His disciples and here Jesus did not reprimand Thomas, Jesus simply reminded Thomas that “where I go you know, and the way you know…” (John 14:4) and “The words I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works.” (John 14:10) Now that Jesus has the disciples in Jerusalem again for another Passover, He is again Teaching them about His purpose and their responsibilities to His Teachings as He asks Question JQ#23 “What do you want Me to do for you?”  (Matthew 20:32) which after all the examples Jesus has set before them with His helping others and His willingness to “serve” others and to “Sacrifice Himself” for others and clearly stating that everything He does is the work of the Father, that this simple Question becomes paramount in the disciples lives and in our lives, for if we know that Jesus is the Son of God and that all His works are of God as part of God’s Plan of Salvation, then truly we should look into our soul and decide, “What do we want Jesus to do for us?”?!?!?!? Here is your chance — do you want to let Jesus “show you the way” to eternal life, do you want Jesus to tell you the Truth about God and His purpose and plan for your life, or perhaps all you really want is to be immortal but instead of eternal peace in heaven you desire to spend your immortality “lording” your supremacy over the weak in the world??? This really is a serious Question, “What do you want Jesus to do for you — really?”  But just remember this promise Jesus made about your requests: “And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son” (John 14:13) ——— so make sure that what you want from Jesus is going to glorify the Father when Jesus gives it to you!!!

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Thursday was a total wash for me, and Friday as well. Saturday was a little better but I started by sleeping in until 6:00a and then worked on bills at my desk -- we made a run to Hoskins for breakfast then Krogers for supplies for Sunday Lunch -- back home for more desk work and after a very light soup lunch I mowed the back yard(s). My stomach is better but not completely resolved yet -- not sure what is going on so I will "fast" until lunch today, then eat light and see what happens---

Thursday was a total wash for me, and Friday as well. Whatever I had lasted 24 hours and my stomach was burning, the word ULCER came to mind, I spent yesterday just laying around and for lunch I had chicken noodle soup and last night I had fish sticks for supper -- it felt so good JUST TO NOT HAVE THE BURNING PAIN!!! After supper I jumped on the TORO and mowed for about 15 minutes and then I bathed and watched a movie and then went fast asleep and did not get up until almost 6:00a! I feel almost normal again! I can't remember the last time I did nothing all day long!

We received our CD "The Chosen" and watched the first three episodes and we had missed several important parts during our "Streaming online" so it was good to see the CD without interruptions. I had to take medicine last night and I feel groggy today so we'll see...

We stayed and helped until about 10:00A when the sun got really hot and I got a little overheated and when I got home I did the upper half of the driveway and part of the lower until I used up two weed eater batteries and then I got on the TORO for a little. Farm work never ends and we aren't even "working the farm", we are just "living" on one -- sure had fun with the chickens -- I see some really good "fried chicken" dinners in the future.

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Tuesday was an unusually HOT day -- It was foggy in the morning and would have been good for working outside but Deb had 5 organic chickens she had helped process Monday and she asked me to help cut them up so we spent the morning "parting" the chickens and putting them up for our meat supply -- I LOVE THE WHOLE Johnson Gap LIFE AND I LEARNED HOW TO CUT (PART) THE CHICKEN AND THEN I LEARNED HOW TO PREPARE THE CHICKEN GIZZARDS WHICH IS A REAL SKILL.

If you have never taken a live chicken and "processed" it for your table then you cannot truly appreciate how much GOD is in a "Chicken Dinner" -- we spend our lives tossing down some inflated money we did not earn to buy Chicken Nuggets we did not prepare -- no wonder we believe the lie that God is "dead"! When you gut a freshly bled-out chicken after removing the feathers you better appreciate the effort God extended to produce the chicken in the first place, and then when you remove the stones from the gizzard you realize the Miracle of God in how the chicken processes food  so we can in turn process chicken for our food! We are going back today and help Jen finish processing the rest of her meat flock and pick up 3 or 4 more for our freezer! It's a GOOD NEIGHBOR thing to do and THE RIGHT THING TO DO!!

All I could manage on the mower was I took the TORO over and cut my practice green to 2" and then I came back and cut the back yard with the RYOBI 40V mower, then it was into the house and the AC!!!

Foggy morning at Johnson Gap --

See how big this bird is -- that's my hands and the chicken is half the length of the big pan!---

I "parted" the bird into 2 wings, 2 leg quarters (thigh and drumstick), the breast(s), and the back and neck piece

Processing the gizzards --
Steps: (1) cut open gizzard (2) remove rocks and discard non useable materials (3) peel the internal membrane off gizzard muscle (clean and bag processed gizzard)
Top center : rocks from inside the gizzard
Left side : is the "discard" from inside the gizzard membrane
Center : the opened gizzard and its inside membrane removed
Right side : the processed/edible gizzard muscle

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Monday was a Brothers Day that got rained on but luckily we were fishing near the truck and was able to sit out the bad stuff sitting in an air-conditioned truck. We are trying different tackle and locating places to fish from the bank -- it was a good thing we were not out in the boat when those storms came through yesterday. We didn't catch any fish but we DID FISH, we just didn't CATCH -- the FUN is in the FELLOWSHIP and if we are not catching fish, we are getting to do it together so it was a good day despite the storm!

Deb went out to her friend Jen and killed and cleaned chickens and brought home 5 fresh organic HUGE birds -- we may go back and help Wednesday and pick up a few more but we need to get the freezer space arranged -- what a blessing to have that much meat in the freezer, God has really blessed the family after we moved to Johnson Gap. Danny is getting closer to moving a "camper" out onto Danny's Hill and we are planning projects to do when he gets moved out, we can't do all the things we did when we were younger, but there is still plenty of stuff we can do and remember, "a three strand cord is not easily broken" ---

Coming Soon to this space -- photos of Brother's Day
(Danny and I never take time to take photos but I am going to take some photos and start a "Brothers" album and post pics on this blog)

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Sunday was a good Sunday School class as we had almost the full class and a visitor -- the Holy Spirit shows up and leads the class with great discussion -- never underestimate how brilliant these 3rd graders are, Jesus said suffer the children and to be like little children to see the kingdom of God and every Sunday I am blessed to see the TRUTH through the eyes of my 3rd graders, what a privilege to be part of their lives that they share their wisdom with us... Steve told the story of someone eating an orange in front of people and then asked them to tell him if the orange tasted sweet or not? The audience responded with "How do we know, we didn't get to eat it!" The man replied, Then don't try to tell me what Jesus is like if you haven't tried Him!" I am going to use that when I speak to R2R next month and introduce them to the Holy Spirit when I talk about the Miracle in Malawi!

I took Paul to church with me last night and he really enjoyed getting out -- God is Good!

Today is Monday and Mondays are our Brothers Day --- so I hope I will have a "Fish Story" to tell tomorrow ---

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Saturday was mostly a mow day, I did a couple of perimeter runs with the Swisher  then I jumped on the TORO and did a LOT OF FINISH CUT @ 2 1/2"!!! When I Rough Cut with the Mule it is creeping along in 4WD and cutting back briars and branches but when I get on the TORO it is FULL THROTTLE for everything except the steep hills and I go very carefully DOWN and am learning how to keep it SLOW going DOWN and Petal-To-The-Metal going UP and ON THE FLATS.

I did have a Big Pond experience that is unusual and is not exactly over. I was trying out the new pole and the braided line with fluorocarbon leader and I landed the giant snapper but when I got him up on shore I had no way of disposing of him so I looked around and say the sharp shovel/ax so I set the pole down and grabbed the shovel and the snapper managed to get off the hook and was getting back in the water so I literally threw the shove at him and it must have stuck in his shell because he swam off with the shovel -- this is weird and I fully expect the shovel to be fatal to him but if not, how will I get my shovel back???

I went out back out after Deb and I swam for awhile and I took pictures of the areas I mowed --

Deb has the chickens AND the ducks eating out of her hands

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Friday was a mow day with the Swisher and then some weed eating at the pond. I did get "Stuck" out below the little pond as I went into a dip and then started up a steeper portion to the earthen dam and the Swisher deck dug into the ground and the Mule would not pull it through -- I had to unhook the Swisher from the Mule and then turn the Swisher around and bring the Mule around and hook up again and remember that I am dragging a mower with a low deck behind me -- the Mule can go anywhere on the property but it is not a bulldozer!!

I made border cuts all around the property and trimmed back the overhanging tree limbs and briars and wild roses so that later I can run the TORO around and not slap myself in the face.

After supper I set up the "Skipjack" rod with Sufix 832 main line and 17 lb. fluorocarbon on the 5.2:1 gear ratio reel and 7'6" Medium Action Fast Tip rod from Bass Pro. If that baby doesn't catch skipjack then nothing will. I will need to get the schedule for when they are generating from Melton Lock and Monday we will try to reel in a few skipjack with our custom Lewis Boys Skipjack Custom Rigs!

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Thursday was an all around good day as I got out just as the unusual rose color was transitioning into a pink sky that changed before I could get my phone out to capture the divine color. The thought struck me that sunrise and sunset are unique color shows that God presents each and every day since He put the two "great lights" in the skies for us -- God and His provisions are there for us every day but to often we sleep or get too busy doing worldly things to enjoy the blessings of God that He provides without fail, day in and day out but we miss so much -- The first picture below Deb took just as it was changing and you can see by the 2nd and 3rd pics, the color had already changed, I saw the beauty as the garage door started opening up but by the time the door had reached the top and I had reached my phone, the color had changed, but not my memory of His Beauty and my belief in His Unchanging Goodness!!!

Paula was going to take Peggy to the Dr. so I washed the van and cleaned it up for them and then I washed the Venza which Danny and I took to make a run to Bass Pro for our project to catch "Skipjack"(Catfish candy). Since we are there, we stop and get a "petite pork chop" and as usual we had an enjoyable "Brother's Day" and next week we will actually try out our new "Skipjack rigs" and see if we can "catch" any.

I made it home about 2:30p and Deb had just mowed the back yard with the Ryobi and was sitting on the couch with her fur babies so I  took the TORO out and mowed down the hill at the Fallen Tree Gate and along the Creek Road at the bottom of our hill. I also did some on the 3 Deltas along the Ridge Creek and then one run up the Connecting Hill up to the Upper Grand Meadow and then knocked down the big stuff on the Lower Grand Meadow where I have my Practice Green which I will work on today.

Deb had just let the feathers out and snapped this picture which had some of the last rose color---

This picture is less than a minute and the rose is gone--

The colors are always changing and ALL are unique ---
His MERCIES are new EVERY MORNING!!

I was on the TORO and it is hard to take a photo and drive at the same time but there is a deer that was helping me mow ---

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Wednesday was a work day at church for me, I went in the afternoon and Sean and I managed to get a mic set for the Baptistry and then we set EQs on the Pulpit mic -- both because Patrick does not project well and the congregation cannot hear his prayers -- this is mostly for the "live stream" we do and if we do not get the amplitude of we transmit dead air (no sound) --- I wanted to set up a "congregation" mic because of the same "dead air" reason but we ran out of time before Steve started his sermon, but the Baptistry and Pulpit are better.

Yesterday we had the AT&T internet people out but instead of getting a separate internet line they installed a booster because they cannot five two lines to one address. We will try this and if necessary we will take 330 Johnson Gap and divide it into "Suites" in order to get separate dedicated lines ---

I finished cleaning up the fence where the metal roofing was removed and I stacked the white bricks down at the corner by the fire pit lot. I managed to get one cut of the lot with the TORO but my skills are not quite ready to tackle the Burn Pit Lot yet. The area in front of the fence and Rob & Molly's Fire Pit looks great with all the metal roofing gone.

Danny and I are making a run to Bass Pro Shop today -- we are looking to get "Skipjack" rigs so we can get onto some Big Cats that just love "Skipjack" that are plentiful in our area here on the Tennessee River and Clinch. You gotta catch skipjack to catch Big Cats ---

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Tuesday Family Night is beginning to resemble FAMILY NIGHT again, proving Covid 19 did not destroy our Family!!! There is a LIGHT at the end of the Tunnel and THE BEST IS YET TO COME!!! I spent the morning moving scrape metal and arranging how to clean our Pole Barn Bay 2 and finally get all the "STUFF" that Robbie, Paul, and myself sorted and organized -- I will work on getting "work benches" set up along the east wall of bay 2 and then will make storage spaces and shelves on the west wall and I will add a "loft" at the end as well. My goal is to be able to drive a truck "through Bay 1 and Bay 2" to the back of the property.

The guy showed up and hauled the metal roof off and some of the old equipment but did not want the Camper Shell for the T100 which I will haul to the Big Pond make a temp camper ---

Danny put together a great collection of "grubs" of various colors and styles for our line of Sabiki Rigs for crappie and skipjack so now we will make a "pork chop" run to Bass Pro and then we will be ready to test our new line of Catfish Candy. I had an IDEA of putting on a fishing school with the classroom being a Pontoon Boat and teaching a group how to read charts and graphs, tie knots, and select fishing equipment. The pontoon will be set up with an "autopilot" navigation system and the class will be able to sit under a Bimini top and watch a big screen TV that will "mirror" the Lowrance Navigation equipment and will teach how to find structure and fish. The class will be 2- 6 people and  the "class" will consist of 5 hours on the water with "lunch" included. The advertisement will be four guys on the nice big pontoon boat watching a big screen explanation of chart reading and will say, the new fishing classroom and will incorporate the phrase "Teach and man to fish..." Imagine your classroom on the water and have all the latest equipment and learn how to use it before making a huge investment. --- Just a dream but I can't get it out of my head now that I have started thinking about it.

Home, Sweet, Home

Hauled all this off ---

This is where I was setting when the "On-the-water-Fishing-School" idea came to me.

Two hours of class on the water identifying structure and fish then break for lunch. Two hours of knot tying and pole selection then fishing using live bait.

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Monday's are getting back to "Brother's Day" and yesterday were were teaching ourselves how to catch skipjack for catfish bait -- we learn a new knot and how to construct a Sabiki Rig for Skipjack and Crappie -- we spent the day learning the knots and then built a dozen and wrapped them individually (in Danny's pill bags) so now all we need to do is go find skipjack to catch --- I then took a couple of poles out of the shed and will set them up with the Sufix braided line and 17 lb fluorocarbon like "The Knox Fisherman" videos we have been watching on youtube about catch fish on the Tennessee River right here where we live ---

Went home, Deb was gone so I jumped on the Toro and was mowing the Corral lot and Debbie said Paula wanted to do it so I stopped and we'll wait for Paula to mow it I guess.

We were taken out to eat by some old Club Dance friends and had a great Blackened Tilapia and shrimp meal at Cheddars - Thanks Bob!

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Sunday's are getting back to  a semblance of normalcy as the crowds and fellowship is growing again at Calvary. We had a full house at Sunday School and the Lesson was Spirit led so the bell rang and we were still "learning about Jesus" --- God is GOOD!!

Danny brought me a trap for fish but I will not keep another fish until I am ready to cook it up on the grill. We then tried to set up his phone with C-Map but it was already on his like it is on mine and maybe we just don't know how to use it properly. I want to be able to look at "spots" on my computer and the take the boat and find that spot on the water and actually fish "structure" -- maybe today we will work on the boat, but someday we will have to "fish from the boat" instead of "working on the boat" -- I think I can safely say if I never wet a hook then I will never catch a fish on a dry one.

Saturday I becoming "typical"  as we do Quiet Time, then Hoskins at 8:00a for breakfast, then Food City to pick up Sunday Lunch, (burgers, Sloppy Joe, and occasionally specialty meals) tomorrow we are doing pulled pork barbecue which Debbie spent all day making along with home made potato salad. I played around at the Big Pond and mowed the big weeds below the Little Pond and started on the ones behind the Little Pond as well. I brought the Swisher back up to the Mule Barn and made 1 run but something seemed ?wrong? with the Mule?? I pulled it into the Pole Barn and will look at the Swisher and the Mule on Monday. Mowed Danny's Hill and worked on the upper part of the Driveway.  I cut up a watermelon and watched fishing videos and found another YouTube that fishes around Knoxville with great advise on tackle and reading maps.

Paul started this with his scooter and Rob, Paula, and Shelly finished it--

Peg and Paul hauling rocks - everyone uses the Mule!!

This is a great hook for packaged bait!!! Plus I have invented a new way to put the prepared bait on the hook and keeping it on there -- fold the main line down, insert the eyelet through the bait, pull the line through the bait making a small cut which can be pressed back together around the shank of the hook and the bait will stay on this KAHLE !!! I have pulled out the two biggest cats I have caught in the Big Pond with this hook.

Friday was another good mow day as I mowed the back yard and the duck & chicken lot with the push mower(s) and then we went "shopping" (again) -- when I got back I decided to put on some shorts and headed to the Big Pond to take the feeder out of the water -- I got to the pond and the catfish (I caught earlier in the day) I had put on the stringer and a turtle had eaten half of it (it was probably a four pounder) so I will have to trap that big snapper and get it out of the pond! Anyway I was able to get the feeder out and it is "trash" to be hauled off today. I have identified a hook and bait that is working so I will try it again today and work on trapping the snapper ---

I watched videos on how to catch skipjack for catfish bait and found another guy fishing here at Melton Dam/spillway and one video started by showing him launching his boat where Danny and I launched ours below the dam ---

Wednesday was a semi-rest day for me since I had such a big workday on Tuesday that got me so tired -- Deb and I ran around Oak Ridge picking up a water filter for the fridge, special food for Max, and I had to have a new debit card printer as my other one did not surface -- I then had to identify everywhere autopay was coming out of the old debit card --- I then ran out to Danny's after lunch to go fishing for a while but Danny was waiting on UPS and a new recliner that Johnny had bought him -- I grabbed a pole and took the new catfish bait to fish across from the boat launch but had no luck -- went home and ate salmon patties and we went to be early ---

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Tuesday was a big tree-cutting & mowing day -- it took me all morning but I manage to clear a path through the fallen tree and the million vines that had grown in the tree top making cutting and moving the tree top a nightmare -- I had chainsaws, loppers, and a  battery operated sawzall and exhausted a couple of batteries but just before lunch I managed to clear almost enough to get the mule through, after lunch I finished the last big branches and was able to drag the swisher through with the mule and then spent an hour reclaiming that garden area and getting it cut down enough to finish cut with the TORO. Of course when I get the TORO fired up I end up mowing EVERYTHING --- and I did! I finished just before 4:00 so I parked the TORO and jumped in the MULE and took pics ---

LANNY'S LOG - JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Monday was a strange day -- I was doing some "accounting" and Deb asked me to take her to Home Depot for some Scotch guard to spray on the quilt on our bed because Murphy is a pee-pot rescue and the quilt is such a pretty quilt. We went to the register to pay and I have "misplaced" my Debit Card?!?!? We left HD to go to the grocery and I remembered that Saturday we went to Walmart and I used the ATM to deposit Danny's check and I think I left the Debit card in the ATM -- I drove to Walmart but the ORNL branch was not open so I checked with Walmart and they said to wait until the branch opened and ask them -- I drove to ORNL main branch and they said I would have to wait and check with the Walmart branch so I will run down there today  sometime, in the meantime I am monitoring the cards activity and waiting on some "Autopay" bills to be processed before getting a new card issued ---

Ok, so I got back home and called Danny to see if he wanted to try going fishing today and he said yes so I jumped in the truck and headed out just before 10:00 and then just outside Andersonville my T100 started overheating and running in the Red Zone -- I was almost to Union County so I though I could make it to Danny's and then --!POW! -- a hose blew off and there was steam everywhere and I had to pull off the road and raise the hood. I could see where the hose had come loose and had blown out all the water from the radiator -- I tried to call Danny but got his voice mail. He was probably outside getting the fishing stuff together and did not take his phone -- I kept calling every couple of minutes and stood by the truck with the flashers on and the hood raised. A "good neighbor" walked across his field and asked me if I needed help and I said I needed water because I blew a hose and he turned around and went back across the field to get some water - I kept calling Danny -- the man started walking back across the field with a water pot and a small bucket of water so I ran across the field to help in carry the water, his name was Carlos and was probably my age so we had a friendly conversation walking back to my truck and then I started pouring water into the radiator and it boiled off as soon as it hit the hot radiator so I poured water ON the radiator and it finally cooled off enough to start filling with water -- there was the "Exact" amount of water needed to get the radiator full so I put the hose back on and adjusted the hose clamp and called Danny again and got him. I told him I had got some help, and the truck started so he didn't need to come get me since I was on the road to him. There were no problems and I even used my AC on the way --

I got to Danny's without incident and he said we needed to change out the dead battery on the 24V Trolling motor, I did and the trolling motor was now operational. Danny then gave me the new fish finder we installed a couple of months ago and it would not work!!!??? I got his volt meter and found the voltage was there but the fish finder would not work!?!? Danny suggested we go to lunch at Golden Girls and I tried to look up what would prevent the fish finder from not turning on since it had 12V -- Danny said to go get a new one and so we stopped by Walmart and got a new (cheap) one and so I installed the new transducer in place of the old one alongside the old one and got it working -- we had found with mounting the last one that it had to be done a certain way to avoid pinching cable while pulling the motor in and out of the water -- The sun had come out and the wind picked up and the day was getting late and I was getting hot so we decided to try "fishing" later this week -- I used the AC all the way home and both me and the truck stayed cool. The truck ran great and so ---

Sundays are Jesus Days for me and is the day that my "spirit" is renewed for the upcoming week. Listen to the world and you worry about tomorrow, listen to God and you look expectantly toward the future for God's Manna, Mercy, Grace, and Forgiveness are showered upon us Everyday WITHOUT FAIL!!! Praise God --- Just had one student, Reuben, but the Holy Spirit SHOWED up and we had a great lesson! Steve was back and fired up so his sermon was great. We had baptisms in both the AM and PM services -- GOD IS NOT DEAD!!!

Our good friends from our Club Dance days came out for an afternoon visit and we are glad to see that the "pandemic" is becoming a bad memory and we can once again fellowship with friends. God Is GOOD!

Took the following sequence of sky pics coming home on Sunday night after church (7:30P) -- not sure what the "writing in the sky" means -

About 8:30P we had an "unexpected" heavy rain storm and loud thunder -- could there be some truth that these "trails" in the sky are ways to "modify the weather"???

Saturdays are mostly shopping and admin (bill paying & bookkeeping) so we had our breakfast date at Hoskins and then off to Oak Ridge to do banking and shopping for Sunday lunch (either Hamburgers or Sloppy Joes - this week is the Joe) and then we came back home and I spent the morning on the AT&T Customer Service 800 number but it turned out successful as I got them to remove the billing on a temporary number that has been inactive since May 2020! They cancelled the line and then gave me a "Billing Credit" and sent me an email notification for my records -- I will watch the billing and monitor the line-by-line charges to make sure it gets in the monthly statements.

We ate a light lunch and a quick nap which was shortened by a severe rain storm. It continued to rain off and on for the afternoon, I hit a few golf balls and played guitar for awhile but ended up back in the air-conditioned house and I watched fishing on YouTube -- KAYAKCatfish which is filmed right here around the Kingston Steam Plant, the Clinch, and the Tennessee River down past Loudon Dam, Danny and I will have to take a little trip to the Steam Plant and see if we can get on some Big Cats (30 - 40 inch Blues and Flatheads) --

Got around pretty early Saturday, other people sleep in on the weekend but not us!!!

Wednesday was a slow day for me - I have a summer cold and Debbie suggested I don't go mow all day as it was supposed to rain, which would have been a cool day to mow and not get too hot. I burned the big pile in the Burn Pit and then took the Mule to recover the Swisher, I decided to mow just a little on the Upper Perimeter for about 45 minutes then I parked the Swisher on top of the hill and came down. I then sat around and did very little but rested for most of the day. I had Wednesday Night service so it was 8:30P when I got home and we went straight to bed ---

<<<<This is a new format since the other was SOOOOO SLOWWWW>>>>

Tuesday was a big MOW day as I mowed with both the Swisher to "rough cut" and then the TORO to "finish cut" -- I worked on the Upper Perimeter Loop with the Swisher first and then I decided to try and get the TORO up the STEEP HILL which it went up (mowing) very easily and I had to go VERY SLOW coming back down but I now have the skill on the TORO to navigate DOWN even the STEEP HILL so today I will take the TORO up on the Upper Perimeter Loop and "finish cut" the main trail. I will have to get a new battery for the Cub Cadet  and a new started as well -- I can't get it started so its stranded down at the Fire Pit where it died while I was starting to mow in the Fire Pit Lot.

I will also work some on getting a mower path cut through the Fallen Tree down in the Creek Garden Area. Lot of work!!!

Debs garden is growing up, up, and away!

The TORO does a great "finish cut"

<<<<This is a new format since the other was SOOOOO SLOWWWW>>>>

Yesterday I worked on the back yard and was able to get the weeds cut back from the outside of the fence then we made a shopping run for some rock and feed (all heavy bags) so I got my morning exercise for sure! I ran out to Danny's and we made a bat house pattern and will set up a "Production Package" -- this is a good design and I'm sure we will be able to sell them ---

Didn't get to go fishing but we did get the "Pattern Assembled" for the Bat House --- I have a summer cold so we shut down early yesterday -- I got a good nights sleep and will get plenty of vitamin D and exercise today -- I really feel good even though I have a little cough.

Bat House plans on plywood scrap

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!

Debbie's garden is really coming in now

<<<<This is a new format since the other was SOOOOO SLOWWWW>>>>

Yesterday we had Addi, Mac, Harrison, and Reuben for Sunday School and it was a really good class - the Holy Spirit ALWAYS shows up and each of us learns so much! Steve and Faye were gone to Florida to spend the Fourth with their grandkids since we are not doing our traditional 4th of July Church wide picnic and then "no Sunday evening service on the 4th" -- Patrick always has a great sermon and Tommy Spencer sang "God Bless The USA" which had everyone standing and crying in many cases -- I LOVE AMERICA.

We had those delicious hamburgers Deb marinates in onion soup mix overnight and a quick nap then I spent the afternoon in the Mule mowing with the Swisher on the Upper Perimeter Road. I mowed some at the Big Pond as well and of course I had to make a cast with the "Baby Shad" and I caught the "Big Boy" which took me at least 15 minutes to get him landed as he again and again reeled off line and I'd have to work him back -- I can't wait for Danny to hook into one of those "Big Cats" in the Big Pond --

The Blackberries are coming in and we will have to pick some this week --

Mornings are so beautiful on our hill ---

Max, Murphy, and Maggie always help do this blog

Mimosa on the hill outside the fence

Robbie and Molly's Big Room onto their deck is really looking GREAT!!

July 4th, ---  4 baby bluebirds

This is the Big Boy, easily "Two Feet" Long and around 5 lbs -- He's back in the pond and ready to fight whoever is brave enough to get in the ring with him!!! I wear a size 11 shoe ---

See ya
