LANNY'S LOG:OCTOBER  -  JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Friday and Saturday both were spent either on the couch or running to the medicine cabinet. I had to arrange someone to take care of our Sunday School class and all my sound responsibilities but we'll see how it goes this morning, I pray all goes well and no knows I'm not there. We took the Mule out but my back got to hurting so more medicine and back on the couch.

All day on the couch ---

Fed the big cats --- counted 5 and one looks like a 6 - 7 pounder!

Friday was another "sick" day, Saturday also -- we will not be going to church tomorrow or to Hoskins today -- just have that hurt all over feeling -- I did get out and set up the new section of garden fence but today I'll not "tire myself"

The last time this chemtrail pattern brought several days of downpours!!!

Friday was another "sick" day and I did nothing -- again -- I went out to Danny's in the afternoon and we loaded up the 4 wheelers and went out to the big pond (accessible only with 4wd) We fished until about 7:30P but the fish were NOT biting -- I drove home in the dark, took a bath, and straight to bed ---

LANNY'S LOG:SEPTEMBER  -  JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Thursday was my first "sick" day so it was another "slow" day --Deb and I both were down in the weather and we had to go to Oak Ridge and pick up Sadie and her friends from the "sock hop" and get them home -- plus Deb needed some supplies from Home Depot so most of the afternoon was spent running around. I will have to work Wednesday Oct 6 for the big R2R meeting in the main sanctuary so I was off yesterday so I called Danny to see if he wanted to move Thursday fishing after supper to Wednesday and he had just finished mowing so he didn't want to -- we all needed the Wednesday night rest. Deb and I took some medicine and went to bed early so we feel much better today!

LANNY'S LOG:SEPTEMBER  -  JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Tuesday was a slow day as I started insulating the back wall of my shop and the Paula, Molly, Rob and I went to ORNL to get me and Paula onto the Johnson Gap account which everyone agreed should be separate from Molly's personal account. We came home and got Paula set up on her computer and I on mine so now everyone knows "Who's on first base" -- it was mostly Paula's idea so I spent an hour or so "pouring over the books" but it appears the "separate" account has one been active since August 2021? just sayin---

I cleaned the Common Area and made a quick run to the Little Pond but no fish. I went back home and mowed the back yard for family night -- Bob brought Buddies Bar-B-Q and Deb added a few hot dogs and it was a good evening --- Deb was tired and I was too so we shut down and went to bed early. I think Danny and I will go out to the big pond behind his property and put some lines out at "sunset" and see if we can bring home some big cats --- Danny cooked up the big cat I had taken out of my pond and it was DELICIOUS!!! I could eat a ton of that fish --

Maggie and Murphy waiting for family night ---

The big tree was dead but it appears it came down by a big wind

The hummers are more like "pigs" ---

SEPTEMBER 28,  2021      5:32a     TUESDAY ---

LANNY'S LOG:SEPTEMBER  -  JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Monday was spent processing chickens at Jen's Farm, her entire family has been sick and the work on the farm piles up quickly so she had a bunch of chickens that she was not going to be able to process and would lose so she offered to let us use their equipment and give us the chickens if we wanted to process them -- we worked from 9 -12:30 and it was constant and hot. Toby and I did the catching and killing, scalding and plucking and then removed head, feet, and craw and the girls gutted and bagged them -- there were 5 of the biggest chickens I had ever seen and had to weigh in at close 15 lbs!!! I got to hot and so when I finally sit down I started getting sick and then when I ate a couple of Krystal chicks on the way home my stomach turned -- that always leads to an "accident" for me which is very "stressful" and the combination had me "done for the day" --- I loaded up the stainless steel countertop Danny and I are going to turn into a fish-cleaning station at his house so I loaded it up into the T100 from the Big Pond and ran it out to Danny's. We moved his dog house from between the Tackle Shed and his Shade Deck  and will put the cleaning station there. We decided to fish Thursday evening after supper at the Big Tank above his Big Ridge property because Danny had an "event" as well just before I arrived so neither of us had any energy -- it was "call-it-a-day" and I went home, took a shower, and to bed early.

Feeding chickens to go kill chickens -- it's confusing!!

Bleeding out the big ones --

After "scald & pluck" it was "behead, remove feet, and take out the craw"

LANNY'S LOG:SEPTEMBER  -  JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Sunday was another great day in the house of God, especially our great little Sunday School class we are having this year, usually we have 4 - 7 which is a great number after not meeting for a full year because of Covid (don't get me started!) and the kids are eager to learn so the classes are great as the Holy Spirit leads both teachers and students to a greater understanding of what God has done in providing for our spiritual needs -- God IS GOOD!

We ate Deb's Great Burgers, took a nap, then Deb and I took a leisurely ride in the Mule around the property, it was a perfect afternoon --

LANNY'S LOG:SEPTEMBER  -  JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Saturday was a slow day- Hoskins for breakfast then to Oak Ridge for shopping, Aldis, Krogers, then the fresh market on the way home -- Deb picked up fresh burger and big tomatoes for Sunday dinner -- Danny called with good news from the Dr. (Urologist) as he is clear from the prostate problems -- so Danny will come tomorrow and eat a fresh grilled burger so his week was a win-win!!! I cleaned around the pole barn and had a big fire then went to check on my traps which were empty, I hope I have caught all the snappers from the big pond, the little pond is teeming with hundreds of fry (bluegill) so we'll work on re-stocking the Big Pond next spring. I didn't have any gumption yesterday so I mowed below the house on this side of Peggy's Creek and the Fire Pit Lot so the day wasn't a total loss --

SEPTEMBER 25,  2021      5:11a     SATURDAY ---

LANNY'S LOG:SEPTEMBER  -  JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Thursday & Friday were both nice and sunny so as the mud dries up I am managing getting the tall grass mowed! It is nice to be able to sit on the TORO and feel the sun on your face -- just sayin'

The mornings are cool so I have done inside projects until it warms up, Thursday was the "toilet" project (which is a total success) and Friday I filled cracks in the very poorly laid flooring. I found an amount of the quick-set mixed with white vinegar that will allow me to  fill a couple of cracks and then clean so that when it sets it doesn't stain the board itself and I can also get the crack filled -- it was mix three scoops wet enough to pour into the crack and before setting I could clean off the board before the mix hardened, three scoops did 2 big cracks so anymore than three would harden too quickly and made clean up really hard. I will work the small cracks I missed next week on a cool morning but I got all the big cracks in the living room done so I'll have to find the right (water base) paint & color to apply now that the cracks are hard.

I mowed the Practice Green and the bottom half of the Grand Meadow and it looks great -- I had an audience so I snapped a couple of photos. I could only mow the crown of Danny's Hill since it was still too wet for the slope -- I also mowed part of both sides of Peggy's Creek, but it was too wet for me to get the Swisher out from the bottom of the Big Pond --- NOTE TO SELF: NEVER park the Swisher at the bottom of the Big Pond before 4 days of heavy rain, the pond is actually overflowing through the overflow drain -- I have not been catching anymore snappers, hope I have them out, I fed the catfish and there are only three Big Cats left, Danny and I will figure how to get them out and then next week we will set up the Stainless Steel fish cleaning station that I have stored at the Big Pond. I am getting the Pole Barn sorted little-by-little and will get the sprayer set up and attack that overgrown driveway mess ---

LANNY'S LOG:SEPTEMBER  -  JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Thursday was out first sunny day since the rain set in on Sunday and I didn't make it outside to work until after lunch. Well, that's not exactly true because I made two trips to Home Depot to get parts for the toilet and to get some Plastic Wood for the cracks in this poorly laid flooring. The toilet has been running and I put a new fill valve but it appears that it is leaking around the drain and flapper so I decided to pull the tank and replace everything! I drove to Home Depot and got stuff to put the pool to bed while I was there and then went and got a "UNIVERSAL FIT" replacement kit and forgot to get the plastic wood for the floor. When I got home and put together the guts of the tank which I had completely removed everything, I went to install the drain and the tank has a 3" hole but the "UNIVERSAL" was for a 2" hole!!! I threw all the 2" parts into a plastic bag loosely and drove straight to Home Depot and got my money back, then went and finally found a 3" Drain valve and purchased a different Fill Valve and remembered to pick up the plastic wood this time --- I made it home and installed the new 3" drain and "quiet" fill valve into the tank and it all works great! The toilet now "flushes" like a champ and fills quickly and quietly and it does not leak -- success!! It did however take me all morning so when I got everything cleaned up and moved to the shop, it was time for lunch and a short nap, Deb was anxious to get out and put the pool to bed for the winter so we managed to get the cover on without too much drama and then after a small accident trying to remove a hose clamp to install a drain plug going to the pump, we got the cover on and I secured the cover down with clamps and bungees and got the pool cover sump pump working and installed -- success!!

It was 3:00P so I decided to go make a quick run out to the ponds and check my turtle lines -- no turtles so I made it back to the house and cleaned up for supper. After supper I mowed the dog lot and had to dump the grass catcher 3 times since the grass was so high, it looks great getting that tall, thick grass cut after all that rain, I'll wait another day before I tackle the chicken and duck lot -- I also need to get Danny's Hill cut and work on the driveway, it is a real mess after the storm. I sure could use a good backpack blower because I can't get mine running and have to use a broom and scrapper on the concrete -- the weeds need to be sprayed as well so that will probably be my weekend ---

SEPTEMBER 23,  2021      5:25a      THURSDAY ---

LANNY'S LOG:SEPTEMBER  -  JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

It's Thursday and it has rained all week... I have worked on nothing but the Bay 2 in the Pole Barn and I will start "sorting and organizing" now that I have benches, platforms, and shelves built. Yesterday I was working also on my song library and preparing for "sharing" with R2R at Calvary, possibly next month. I have been given a "new song" and I always love the opportunity to share with R2R. I will be given the whole Wednesday night so I am planning what "order" I should do the songs so that the "Message" will be best presented. I of course spent most of my day looking for where I put all my song masters but I finally found where I had filed them, the move from Arrowwood to Johnson Gap and then the "arranging" of all of our stuff with each other and with Peg and Paul has required moving stuff and then moving it again and again until everyone is "happy" where their stuff is and I am at the bottom of the pile so my stuff has moved at least 5 times and each time I re-sort and put some things in boxes and some got moved to the Pole Barn and back again, and some made filing cabinets and moved from room to room to make room for other things as two households of senior citizens and all their collected "stuff" ends up at a single address --- its complicated and to me, its still a "little bit of heaven" for me so eventually I'll get my stuff organized and it will have a permanent location.

I did make a run out in the Mule yesterday after picking up Sadie and was able to pick up the Practice Green and ran by the the Little Pond and caught  a medium Bluegill and took it for my turtle lines in the Big Pond. Another big tree has fallen into the Big Pond and I will have to put on my waders and pull logs out of the water this time. It is on the same end as the trees that fell across the trail into the west end. This has been a very wet month and we really need some sunshine, all my grass has gotten out of hand and is going to be a BIG JOB!!! We also are going to get the pool cover on and put to bed for the winter  which the rain has kept us from getting in and getting that task done -- hope it stays sunny all weekend.

Deb did get a fall planting done before the rain set in ---

LANNY'S LOG:SEPTEMBER  -  JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Monday was rained out & so was Tuesday but great progress was made on Bay 2 in the Pole Barn, I built the Upper Deck and got the scaffolding put up there, we will be able to back the truck in and load from the bed - then I cleaned out a section and built a new heavy duty work bench and shelves, Robbie showed up after 10 (all the heavy work had been done and started sorting and clearing the floor and Paula helped clean and sort as well. I got a little over-tired but the effort was well worth it and I got a good rest after lunch. Danny came out at 4:00p and the sun came out -- we jumped in the Mule and with standing water everywhere we toured both Ponds and the entire set of trails and meadows -- put the Mule in 4wd and it can go everywhere on Johnson Gap!!!

Deb made Pizza Casserole which was GREAT and it was after 8:00p when we finally got the house back in order so we went to bed, no movie.

LANNY'S LOG:SEPTEMBER  -  JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Monday was rained out -- no Brothers Day, I did not get out in the Mule as it rained all day. I did however make good process on Bay 2 in the Pole Barn as Rob and I have made or "Man Mess" with tools and supplies and basic lack of organization that drives everyone but us crazy, not saying it doesn't bother us, it just doesn't drive us crazy -- anyway I have set up a platform on the camper top which is over the two metal roll up garage doors that came out of Paula's place and will eventually be hauled off but not now -- I have converted it into a temp storage area which Rob and I will use to organize the front section of the bay to be used as his garage and workbench and clear out enough space to park a truck.  Rob and I agreed last week that we will work Tuesday (today 9/21/21) on Bay 2 so Monday I got a good start on it.

I did nothing in the indoor shop as all day was spent setting up the platform using the camper top and building an overhead area at the back of the barn. I am losing all strength and stamina so I have to work slow and rest often but I am determined to get things sorted so that everyone else isn't too annoyed with me --- I did not get to go fishing with Danny nor did I leave the hill until we had to go out to Big Ed's Pizza for a Calvary Choir dinner. Deb and I wrecked a couple of pizzas and came home and went to bed early ---

I did not take any pictures of the rain so this will be another short post-

Sunday was another Good Day in God's House -- Calvary is always filled with the Holy Spirit and I always leave saying, "It was Good to be in the house of the LORD!" We only had 3 in Sunday School but it was a God Lesson, I prepare but the Spirit always takes us in a slightly different and inspiring way for both the teacher's and the student - it truly is amazing how that works -- I know that if I am faithful to prepare the lesson that God is faithful to show up and adds an understanding that can only come from Him! I had to go back early and start working on a new new video project we are going to start in October on Sunday nights.

Saturday was rained out -- We went to Hoskins the dropped off milk jars at Wendys and picked up tent stakes for the pool cover we were going to put on yesterday afternoon, but it rained all afternoon. I played my guitar and learned the chords to Amazing Grace, after all these years I can now play Amazing Grace ---

I ran out to the Little Pond and set the minnow trap then I went to the Big Pond and checked the turtle lines and still had my fish heads. Went back home for lunch and a nap and then the rain set in ---

LANNY'S LOG:SEPTEMBER  -  JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Friday was an "off" day for me, I can't explain it but something was just a little odd and I'm not sure what?!? I did some miscellaneous things in the back yard and mowed after I changed the bedding in the Duck house. I then went to the Little Pond and caught some bluegill with a dry fly and bobber then transported them to the Big Pond and one of the poles set out for snappers had a turtle on! It was about half the size of the one caught yesterday so now I know there are 2 fewer snappers --- I also caught a big cat but let him go. I am using bluegill heads as bait and they are working well --- I also mowed with the Swisher on the Upper Perimeter and then parked it at the Big Pond. After supper I took the TORO up the Steep Hill after mowing the first Delta along the Southwest Creek and while on top I mowed the Turn Around and the Triangle and made several runs to the West Rim Entrance to the Big Pond. I also mowed the flat spots on my way up the Steep Hill, I'm getting better at mowing on the hills and I am happy with how I have everything cut and Deb is happy to see I have left some "Meadows" as well.

LANNY'S LOG:SEPTEMBER  -  JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Thursday was a good day for me and a black day for the big snapper that has been terrorizing my Big Pond --- I went to the Little Pond and caught a good sized bluegill with my fly rod, took the fish to the Big Pond and prepared it for the Coleman. I had brought my big pole rigged up heavy for big cats and I used the bluegill head to bait it up and tossed it out trying to catch the big snapper which had been breaking the line on smaller poles. I came back after lunch and there was the big pole with a slight bend and sure enough I knew something was on the line when I saw movement. I had also brought my 22 pistol and had sharpened my machete just in case and as I had to tighten my drag to get the line in, I knew I had something big and it felt like a turtle but the big pole and the line held and I was able to drag the big snapper up on land, put a bullet in his brain and then cut off the head for good measure. I took a photo and I'm sure that I'll have to restock the pond because I haven't caught anything out of the Big Pond for a couple of weeks. I also had a visit from my two yearling whitetails and did I mentioned that the bluegill tasted really good!

Wednesday was a slow day, the hose came off the pond so my temporary fixes need to be made a permanent fix to keep the "Water can" feature working to aerate the Koi --- I went to get some tools but ended up doing the two cherry tomatoes plants removal and hauling off instead -- I then made a run to the big pond and cut some more on the fallen trees -- next it was lunch and picking up Sadie and then cleaning around the Pole Barn, moved the Stainless counter and propane grill to the Big Pond ---  I used the T100 to move everything to the Big Pond and the new tires make all the difference --- need to put on new front brakes --- its always something ---

SEPTEMBER 15,   2021      5:43a      WEDNESDAY ---

LANNY'S LOG:SEPTEMBER  -  JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Tuesday was a very nice day to be outside for any reason and I have 64 reasons so Tuesday was a bonus day because I got to be out in it all day. I took my chainsaw down to the Big Pond and set out an old pole with a fish head to try and catch the big snapper turtle and then went around to the other end where the trees had fallen across the trail blocking access from the West Rim entrance. After a couple of hours I managed to get the trail cleared so tomorrow I am going to take the T100 down and load firewood and bring the small stuff up and burn it.

I had left the Swisher at the Big Pond so I hooked up, gassed up, and mowed the remainder of the Upper Perimeter, down Shady Lane, to the Creek Trail, and ended up at the Little Pond where I finished mowing the steep part of the trail going up to the Little Pond from the Southwest Creek Deltas. I then took the Swisher and made some perimeter runs on the Upper Grand Meadow and then parked the Swisher at the Fallen Tree Gateway. After lunch and a quick nap I jumped on the TORO and mowed Danny's Hill then jumped over to the Practice Green and cut it. I then ran the TORO on 3" and widened all the connecting trails and then mowed the main area around the Little Pond. I will take the weed eater down to the Little Pond and work on the "fishing area" --- I need to do the Chicken, Duck, & Pool Lot with the self-propelled today also. --- So --- another nice day to be outside would be appreciated ---

Monday was Brothers Day at Johnson Gap -- Danny came out and helped me mow, cut trees and he also brought some fresh mealworms and red worms so between tasks we transferred bluegills from the Little Pond which is full of bluegill to the Big Pond which I don't think has any left. The 13 BIG CATS in the Big Pond have been culled over the summer and I think only two or three remain plus I know of one BIG SNAPPER that is in the Big Pond as well. Next spring we will restock both ponds if the water levels stay up. Deb made us all hamburgers for lunch and since she had "doctor" duty all day, we ordered in pizza for supper.

LANNY'S LOG:SEPTEMBER  -  JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Sunday was another GREAT DAY IN THE HOUSE OF THE LORD!! We are blessed this year with a large 3rd Grade Sunday school class. We are able to go through the lessons and the workbook in order and since the class is consistent we are able to build on what we learned last week and the Holy Spirit is doing a marvelous work in all our lives, teachers and students alike! Sunday is WORSHIP and a day of rest -- Sunday evening we had communion and Steve stressed the words of the thief on the cross as a condemned man asked JESUS: "Remember me when You come into Your Kingdom." Words all of us should echo when we realize Jesus at the Last Supper said the Broken Bread was his Body broken for us and His Blood was Shed for our sins and all Jesus asked that each time we partake of The Lord's Supper was "Remember Me" --- We all have evil thoughts and wicked ways but turning to Jesus those evil thoughts and wicked ways are transformed into PRAISE for the ONE who REDEEMS US and has not only "Remembered Us", Jesus has Written our names in the Book of Life in Heaven! The choir sang for the first time since COVID and Bruce did an Anointed rendition of "I Bowed On My Knees" and the Holy Spirit moved mightily among the congregation -- truly it was good to be in the House of the Lord!!!

Genesis 1:3 "Let there be LIGHT."

Jesus said: "Follow Me and I will make you fishers of men."

"Suffer the children to come unto Me."

SEPTEMBER 12,   2021      5:42a      SUNDAY ---

LANNY'S LOG:SEPTEMBER  -  JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Saturday was the 20th anniversary of the greatest mystery ever to be associated with America. This great mystery is called 9/11 and the only other event in American history that comes near to all the unanswered mysteries and logging of events that defy the laws of physics and logical reasoning was the November 22, 1963 JFK event. I know that on 9/11 I hold my breath and pray without ceasing that something unexplainable does not occur that so assaults our sensitivities that the whole nation and even the whole world is stunned and shocked to see mankind great accomplishments be brought to nothing on a single morning by a few people who desire nothing but destruction and ruin and have so much disdain for the miracle of life! For me, it is the fact that physics can be so easily manipulated and we have no foundation to get solid footing on, water is no longer wet, the sky is not above the earth, and somehow up is the definition of down and the world as we know it is nothing but fear and doubt. Today is 9/12/2021 and I praise God that His creation is not being overridden by some act of death and destruction, creation was designed to support life and when we see an event such as 9/11/2001 take so many lives and destroy so many families and bring into question our way of life of freedom and liberty, we as a nation abandon our faith and succumb to fear. A nation afraid of freedom is a nation soon to crumble.  Well so much for 9/11 --- I had to "unbend" a TORO blade yesterday and I managed to "straighten" it back sufficiently to get the TORO back into service again. I then worked on mounting the Swisher controls on the blade deck and should not have any issues with that again, so I tested the TORO on Paula's corral lot which she did the entire lot with the bent blade and had to be able to see the damage but did the whole lot anyway???? Next I took the Swisher out and ran out of gas in the tank and had failed to bring more gas so I parked it on the Upper Perimeter and then went to work on the fallen "trees" (not 1 tree but four trees that were joined by vines and wild grape) and my chainsaw started acting up, I think that I need to have chain oil to keep the unit from "overheating" I managed to get two of the smaller trees untangled and cut out and moved off the trail, this is going to be a several days job but I will be able to make a good pile of firewood for the Big Pond. I tried using mealworms at the Big Pond but no bites, I then took the same pole and bait to the Little Pond and immediately caught another good sized bluegill. So I guess that means the bluegill population in the Big Pond is decimated?

I am putting the Mule on the battery charger because I think that when I run it so slow while dragging the Swisher through the deep stuff that I am not getting enough airflow to cool the Mule and it has to use the battery to run the cooling fan and it will run for several minutes after I turn off the Mule -- either the alternator, or the battery is degrading because when the battery is fully charged the Mule starts great. It's always something.  I "tested" the Coleman stove again and that is a winner! Nice to see the good fish coming out of the Little Pond, I thought it was "dead" ---

Just straightened the bent blade - going to test it in the Corral Lot and hopefully I can clean up the gouges somewhat --

My first post was started at 5:16a and took me 30 minutes and when I went to "POST" my photos they failed to upload to the blog so I went out of Safari to reset the blog and forgot to "UPDATE" the blog so all my work was LOST--- this post at 6:03a below is my 2nd of the day"<<<

(2nd Post) Friday 9/10/21 was a bittersweet day, (1) I bent a blade on the TORO again (at the same place as last time)  so that will need to be repaired today. I will mount the chain hoist and get access to the blades. (2) The Mule would not start and the started was making a clicking noise so I threw the Battery charger on the Mule. (3) I had tried to cut the remaining tree blocking the view of the left side of the landing area on the practice green and the blade on the chainsaw was so dull I used up the battery just trying to cut the notch. I put the Ryobi batteries on their chargers and sharpened the chainsaw. (4) I got the Mule started and before I hooked to the Swisher up I moved the offset hitch back to a straight configuration to pull the Swisher directly behind the Mule so I could cut through some of the very thick stuff on the Upper Grand Meadow and the "offset" position will not allow you to back up when you have to turn into the offset --- so I wanted to be able to "back" the mower and I do that best with a straight hitch -- I went and started mowing the perimeter of the Upper Grand Meadow and (4) the control unit/switch came undone and the switch got pulled out and lost in the tall grass, of course the mower would not run so I took it back to the Pole Barn and got the big magnets Danny brought me and I was able to go back  and find the switch. (5) I decided to take my ultralight and see if I could catch some bluegill in the Little Pond and I used a dead mealworm from Monday and caught the biggest bluegill ever out of that Little Pond so the Little Pond is fine and mealworms are the perfect bait! Alls well that ends well ---

That is a big bluegill

LANNY'S LOG:SEPTEMBER  -  JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Thursday 9/9/21 was a pretty fall day and I did get the TORO out early and mow on Both sides of Peggy's Creek, part of the Big Field next to   Upper Peggy's Creek where our property joins the neighbor on the North Side. Then I dropped down and mowed the middle Delta along Southwest Creek and the culvert to the Steep Hill as well as making a couple of cuts on the connecting trail between the Upper Grand Meadow and the Three Deltas cleared on the North Side of Southwest Creek. I have named all the areas and I am working on a "MAP OF JOHNSON GAP" and yesterday Deb and I went out and started identifying  plants, trees, and insects on our 64 acres. Our goal is to have a type of "arboretum" and to put labels and plaques on them and then to show where they are on the map -- huge project for sure but a pure "labor-of-love"!!!

I also took the frozen bluegill and a couple of small pieces of the Trophy Bass I caught Monday Sept. 6, 2021 from the big pond behind Danny's Big Ridge property and when I dropped off the rim to the Big Pond there is a big tree down blocking the trail to the Big Pond so I had to turn around and go around the Big Pond Rim to the East Entrance and get to the Big Pond down that hill. Once at the Big Pond I fired up the Coleman cooking stove and fried up the bass and bluegill using the "butter flavored" Crisco and Cajun spices -- IT WAS DELICIOUS!!! (Today I will take my chainsaw down to the Big Pond and start working on cutting the tree across the trail and actually reached the pond with the top of the big tree, not sure if it came up from the roots or was it a lightning strike??)

I hooked up to the Swisher and mowed rest of the Upper Perimeter and down the hill from the Upper Perimeter on Shady Lane all the way to the Little Pond. I am going to get  "DRONE" pics and make my MAP and put all my names to places in the form of a "TRAIL MAP". I am like a kid in a candy shop with all the mowers, woods, ponds, and wildlife that is here at Johnson Gap!!! GOOD IS GOOD!!!

I also got a new parking place for the boat and moved the mower-trailer and cut the weeds around the Tee Box area. I will continue work on the Pole Barn and Burn Pit Lot and level out and re-position the Tee Box to accommodate hitting a Driver and/or Long Irons to the Big Culvert at the end of the Black Willow Fairway on the East Side of Peggy's Creek. I will also take out a couple of the trees that have been killed by the Kudzu that has taken over the East Side of the 330 Complex. Kudzu is a long-term project that may require "GOATS"!?!

LANNY'S LOG:SEPTEMBER  -  JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Wednesday 9/8/21 we began our full Wednesday night choir practice and we had almost the full crew, less Debbie who is going to sit in the congregation instead of the choir because of her "Care-giving" for her mom and dad prevents her from attending the required choir practices for participation in the Calvary choir. To everything there is a "season" and our move to Johnson Gap required some compromises and we have talked about the "sacrifices" required and we "give willingly with a happy heart" -- Deb is truly a Proverbs 31 woman and they are hard to find, I didn't find her but God had Mercy on me and granted my prayer in 1977 for an "Angel" (God made her blonde and beautiful as a bonus!) I will miss her voice as I mix the sound for Calvary.

Yesterday was "loose ends" day and we "Burned" and I hauled trash to Frost Bottom then had to make gas runs for the mowers, weed eaters, the T100, the Venza, and the Dodge -- I only spent $160.00 but we are gassed up and ready to go! I did get off the hill to mow along Peggy's Creek (both sides) and also the Practice Green. I tried to drop another tree that blocks the left side of the green landing area but the Kudzu is so thick that when I cut the trunk, the tree is still hanging in an upright position -- I will have to get a chain and literally pull the tree down out of the Kudzu!

Today I will work on the pole barn area and set up my Fire Pit Bay Area -- Next week we will have a Pole Barn Meeting with Rob, Paula, and myself and work on Rob's 2nd Bay and start hauling off the trash and the many tool extras. Eventually all will be on shelves and work benches (I hope) ---

Hummingbird wars are not for wimps!

The Koi are really growing!

LANNY'S LOG:SEPTEMBER  -  JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Tuesday was a great Family Night as we celebrated James' BD. I always like when the boys have birthdays because Deb always fix their favorite meals and James gets chicken and vegetables and Robbie gets pinto beans, cornbread, and fried taters --- Yum, Yum, Yum! Last night Deb included some red and yellow bell peppers with onions and it was heavenly --- I really felt last nights meals was a feast and it made me feel like a king -- GOD IS GOOD!!!

I spent the morning cleaning the shop and the common room for family night and then after lunch I went to the church to help Bruce get the sound (and stage) set up as we return to a full choir -- PRAISE GOD that we are coming out of this COVID 19 and that HIS MERCY has been showered on HIS people. I returned home in time to help Rob  do his front yard and of course we had to do some maintenance repair on the lawn mower and Rob also got the big weed eater running so the day was a total success and the front looks great!

Heaven on earth ---

LANNY'S LOG:SEPTEMBER  -  JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Monday was a holiday so Danny and I decided to go up to the talkback behind his house and try to catch some big cats there. We loaded up his 4 wheeler and the side-by-side and headed out -- it was a pleasant morning and Danny caught a couple of bluegills quickly and I decided to try and land some bass with my ultralight rig -- big mistake because I was losing tackle and plastic worms like every other cast, I was getting good strikes but the fish were too big and I was not tying my hooks good enough. The bass were huge and I kept losing them so I changed poles but I could not land any. I had cut up one of the bluegill and used my catfish rig to cast out the head into the deep part of the pond and just after losing my last bass rig on my medium pole the catfish rig got a huge hit on it and it was heading to the water!!! I grabbed the pole and set the hook and the battle was on --- the fish was hooked onto the big rig and after a few minutes I managed to get it in closer to the bank and then it broke water and it was the biggest bass I had ever hooked into and he was coming way out of the water trying to spit the hook out but I kept him on the line and finally got him up on shore where Danny grabbed him just as the hook came out! The huge bass had got Danny's line all tangled up so while I was getting the big boy on a stringer, Danny had to cut line and set up again. Of course we took photos and decided to go up to the little tank and we caught a mess of bluegills and Danny hooked up with a 6-7 lb. carp! All in all a great Brothers Day fishing!!! I brought the fish home and filleted the bass and got him and the big bluegill I kept into the freezer --

Fried Okra from our garden---tasted just like Grandma Amy's!!!

LANNY'S LOG:SEPTEMBER  -  JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Sunday was our best Sunday School day this year and it was Labor Day but we ended up with 7 girls (all girls class so far this year). Each of the girls is unique and makes an individual contribution to the lesson -- there are no words to explain being in this kind of learning environment and how the Holy Spirit works every Sunday in our class!!!

We had Sloppy Joes and a nap as usual but we mixed up the Sunday routine by taking a ride in the Mule yesterday and identified all the beautiful and helpful plants in our Garden of Eden @ Johnson Gap!!!

Danny and I will not get out on the lake today since it is Labor Day but will go up to the big tank behind his house to fish today ---

LANNY'S LOG:SEPTEMBER  -  JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Saturday was our typical breakfast date @ Hoskins then we went searching for "food grade" 5 gallon storage buckets for the new rice and seeds Deb has purchased for our "Stock Pile" -- It's always "wise" to have "survival food" around. We found the buckets at Home Depot and then we dropped by Toby and Wendy's to pick up raw milk. By the time we got back to the house it was past 10:00a so I sat down and worked on my new "commentary" on the similarities between JFK, 9/11, and now Afghanistan --- Then I changed clothes and decided to go up on the Upper Perimeter and mow with the Swisher. My stomach was acting up so I told Deb to not wait for me for lunch and then I mowed almost the whole perimeter. I have 3 sections left and it will be completely done, it has grown up considerably over the summer but once it is cut it is really very nice and worth the effort, it is good medicine for me so I just sat on the mower all day and then ate a small portion of Deb's Delicious Meatloaf for supper.

Koi Pond is now flourishing ---

More wildlife

More natural remedy plants

I also did the upper big area above the Big Pond and the area past the fork on the opposite side of the Big Pond but did not get photos -- both areas look great so that is all the 4 big areas that make up the Upper Perimeter Rim to the valley of the Big Pond

LANNY'S LOG:SEPTEMBER  -  JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Friday was another sort, clean, and organize day that doesn't show up until everything gets put back up neatly in their respective sections; plumbing, electrical, cables, mounting hardware, tools, etc. There will be a couple of runs to Frost Bottom trash dump next week --

I also have my weed eater mod working well on the weeds and was able to finish the driveway from the "transition" to the end of the fence so today I will try to finish from the mailbox to the gate -- I will need to take the Swisher & the Mule up to the Upper Perimeter Sections and the Big Pond area when it dries up next week. The storms filled up the Big and Little Ponds to their overflow pipes and Deb mentioned stocking the Ponds as a "food source" -- I agree. Deb also took Peggy out to the back part of the property on the Mule and Peggy loved it!

A domestic pigeon flew into the compound and Paula fed her

LANNY'S LOG:SEPTEMBER  -  JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Thursday was a "work" day on the driveway and cleaning up from the fallen tree at the mailbox. As with everything, I had to fine tune my new weed eater .105 modification but the new "mounting" is working and I just have to avoid making reel-to-concrete contact as the rpms of the reel combined with the hardness of the concrete will snap even the .105 line -- so I will just have to modify the procedure/process and the new mod cuts through big weeds like butter but will snap the .105 line if contact is made with concrete or hardwood! I also lost a screw that holds the handle on the push mower so I had to repair that little issue so I could mow the mailbox area. The driveway had a lot of rocks and gravel from the storm as well as grass and weeds from my trimming the edges so it was scrapper and push broom time for the upper driveway transition to the gravel driveway into the compound. The day would not be complete without picking up shag balls and taking the TORO out to mow the Practice Green to a neat 2 inches, of course I mowed down the Corral Road and at the Fallen Tree Gateway on my way -- Paula had just finished the Corral Lawn and the driveway between her yard and ours. I pulled the TORO up to the shop and after supper I washed it down and put it back in its stall in the pole barn. To top a good work day off I mowed the back yard also --- found another missing swing technique "extend the hands as far as possible on the backswing, staying locked onto the back of the ball for the entire swing" --- This is a really nice place up here for everyone!

Chickens & Ducks are at the gate---

Tomatoes, Tomatoes, Tomatoes - Deb picked these yesterday!

Wednesday was another sort day and it sprinkled here and there but I am getting the indoor shop in better shape - I would go out during the "rain breaks" and hit shags and I also took the Mule to pick up balls. It was still a little slick on the steep part but not too bad -- When the sun came out I had to jump on the TORO and mow Danny's Hill and then took the weed eater to the top part of the driveway -- Deb made a great beef stew and egg noodles for supper then I went to Wednesday night service ---

LANNY'S LOG:SEPTEMBER  -  JOHNSON GAP CHRONICLES

Tuesday was rain on-and-off all day from the hurricane that hit Louisiana this weekend. I spent all day sorting my shop and was able to finally clean my bench tops off and sorted into big containers all the different "types" such as "tools", "supplies", "hardware", "electrical", etc. All my "sports" are in one corner and all my hardware is going onto a shelf and separate drawers and boxes sorted into sub-groups. There is plenty of room in the shop so I will do a couple of more "storage" shelfs up on the wall and keep all the "active" items down where I can easily reach them.  The master plan is to get the shop "insulated" before winter so my wood burner will keep the shop bearable in the freezing weather and then install a little air conditioner for next summer. I went out during the breaks and hit a few practice balls -- the old swing is slowly coming back and occasionally I hit really good shots like I used to, I know its "strange" but I like to mow grass and hit golf balls so I am in "Hog Heaven" here at Johnson Gap because I get to do both!  Started playing with making movies out of my iPhone "Photos" so the rainy day actually was a lot of fun and then we had my favorite " Debbie-from-scratch spaghetti" so I have to declare the day a success!

A tree was down and someone? cut it off the road??
