A Day in the Life / Thursday, December 31

Quiet Time....

“But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 3:13-14

We had our little fur crew for Bible Reading this morning...fire and all, it was a really cozy December 31st morning... Maggie and Murphy are under the blankets...

So, it's the last day of 2020...it's been..... well, you know :-)

Not a bad temperature for my morning chores, but it was a misty rain so the damp made it feel cold....

Lanny and I went down to Walmart to spend our $200 Humana benefit for over the counter health aids...they sent out the cards a few weeks ago and then they expire tonight...not much time considering Holidays, but we managed to get it done. We stocked up on everything we could think of: toothpaste, Alka Seltzer, bandages, sport creams...you know...

I warmed up some left over grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch and then we headed for the couch and Siesta Time!

Ya'll must think we are awfully lazy...well, we are retired and everyone knows that retired folk have to take naps :-) I used to make fun of my folks for sitting in the garage door looking at the neighbors and taking naps mid day...well, we sit in the barn doors and watch the birds (no neighbors) and take naps midday.... Hmmmmmm....

I made Sauerkraut and Wieners, Stewed Potatoes, Green Beans and Carrots and Macaroni and Cheese and Rolls...we had Applesauce and No Bake Cookies for dessert! Yummy!

I put the chicks and ducks to bed while Lanny patrolled the yard for Puppy Land Mines and now I am sitting here doing this entry and waiting for him to get a bath and put on the 2nd installment of Harry Potter...I see popcorn and ice cream from the snack bar in our future :-)

Goodnight Y'all...

Oh, if you are wondering, we will probably be in bed by 8-8:30 and no, we will not be ringing in the new year. We haven't done that in years...I figure the new year can find it's way without us!

Happy New Year!!!!

A Day in the Life / Wednesday, December 30

Quiet Time...

"These things I have spoken unto you, that in Me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world."

John 16:33

*****

...a Chilly start....

Such a beautiful sunrise!

Sadie has all three fur kids waiting for cuddles...
...while outside the morning chores are under way...

Lanny emptied all the paper trash bins to make a very big and very warm burn pile!

Paula was letting the horses out for the day...

...and they were ready!

Paula had to take the little barn cat FooFoo to the vet yesterday...she was pretty old and had developed some problems with her spine and back legs...it was just too much for her little body to deal with and they had to put her down...Paula buried her behind the little barn and we will make it the future resting place for all our little fur family...they are family after all...so hard to let go...

********

Sadie continued making her menus...she has been looking up food and making recipe books and menus for two days. She LOVES doing this kind of thing and can entertain herself for hours...she is a very special little lady!!

We had grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch and Lanny and I rested for a little while as Sadie continued her research...

After our Siesta (and Dad's nap) he and Lanny went out to change the torn flag for a brand new one...

While we were changing flags Rob, Molly and Thaniel came up out of the woods after a very long walk around the property...they were worn out but enjoyed the sun and warm afternoon temperature...

We had Mexican again for dinner...Burritos, Tacos, Tostado left overs...as good as the first time around!!

...then Sadie and I went out to talk to the horses while she waited for her Mom to come up to get her...

The sky was quite lovely as the sun was setting...it kept changing colors...seems it couldn't make up it's mind whether to be a sailors delight or warning...

Lanny headed down the hill in his truck...running great again!

...could this be the warning for weather to come?

Chickens and ducks are in bed, I'm in my jammies, watching a Star Trek episode and waiting for Lanny to get home...Wednesdays keep him a little later and we probably won't watch the next Harry Potter tonight... but tomorrow night we will :-)

Goodnight Y'all...

A Day in the Life / Tuesday, December 29...still no Family Night

Quiet Time....

"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

 - John 14:1-3

A bit chilly but not 16 degrees!

Chicks and ducks were out and about a little early this morning ...I had to head down the hill at 7 to pick up Sadie...

Pretty sunrise in the hills....

Sprouting mung beans for a stir fry Thursday or Friday...it takes a few days before the sprouts are just right :-)

Made a cherry cobbler for dinner while Sadie worked on a menu for her younger cousins to use to play restaurant :-)

...and while the dogs do what dogs do...
It is certainly a "Dog's Life" around here!

We had left over spaghetti and chicken and rice casserole for lunch...just enough for lunch and maybe even better than the first go round!! Some things just warm up great!

Then a quick little Siesta before we head to Norris to pick up Lannys truck from the shop.

The feathered kids have lots of grass in the yard to play in but seem to want to rest in the gravel...I think it's because this is close to the kitchen. They all come running when I open the back door...

Little Ponderosa also has camel grazing here below our house...so I get to see my little Zebu AND camels all the time...I LOVE our home!

We picked up Lanny's truck and headed home...I made Mexican: Burritos, Taco's and Tostado's and then the Cherry Cobbler and Ice Cream... needless to say we are ALL stuffed and ready to settle down for the night.

The feathered kids are all snug in their beds...we are in our jammies and waiting for Sadie to decide on our feature for the night... I'll let you know...

Oh, I forgot to show you what our Daughter-in-Law Natasha made for us...

She made this plaque for me, obviously :-)

...and a lovely framed piece of art for Mom and Dad...she has kept that Cricut busy making Christmas gifts...I have a Cameo Silhouette myself and love using it. Fun and pretty projects!!

Goodnight Y'all....

A Day in the Life / Monday, December 28

Quiet Time....

“I prayed to the Lord, and He answered me. He freed me from all my fears.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭34:4‬ ‭
******

Wow! Heat wave :-) ....well, it felt like one after these 16 degree mornings!

Lanny and I went down the hill to hunt for trivets/cutting boards to use to protect Mom's table when we set hot bowls and wet stuff...stopped at KARM's...nothing there...went to Tractor Supply and bought some chicken feed and scratch but found no trivets there...went to Dollar Tree and found a few glass ones...shopped at Aldi's and added to our pantry stock. Then we went to Kroger's and found some bamboo cutting boards that will work just fine...

I took Mom to the doctor (appointment at 1:45 and we didn't get out til 3:00!), then to the eye doctor to pick up her new lenses. So.... we didn't get home til after 4. Fortunately I was smart enough to put some spaghetti sauce in the crock pot sonI just had to cook the pasta when we got home.

A sweet highlight was that I got to see Kyrtis at Walmart...he works in the deli/bakery!

I did, however, have to feed the fur kids at 4 o'clock and they were very upset that their dinner was two hours later than usual. :-)

So now we are well fed, the chicks and ducks are in their "beds", we are in our jammies and settling down to watch Harry Potter! I really love the series...I didn't think I would when they first came out, so we didn't watch them until recently.

Goodnight Y'all...

A Day in the Life / Sunday, December 27

Quiet Time....

“Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.”

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭6:11‬

It's Sunday...the Lord's Day...

Another cold morning...19 degrees. I let the chickens and ducks out of their snug coop and house and hurried in to my nice, warm house...those crazy ducks will swim in the ice water and seem to LOVE it!!

I looked out the kitchen window and a little hummer was trying to get breakfast...the feeder was frozen solid. I brought it in and warmed it up under warm water and immediately when I hung it back up I had my little visitor...

We didn't have Ensemble rehearsal this morning so Lanny and I didn't have to go in quite as early...

I was able to prep for Sunday Dinner.  I put rice in the cooker and set it for 12:30 and put the creamed chicken in the crock pot...it'll be ready when I get home.

The fur kids were enjoying the warm living room...

I headed down the hill around 9 and saw my little Zebu buddy...I am definitely gonna have to get me one next spring...

He is just SO cute...he always seems to know I am taking his picture...I stop on my way and he always looks...Maybe I should see if James (the Little Ponderosa Zoo over  will sell him to me :-) Ha!

Steve delivered a blessed sermon as usual and we had a pretty good crowd in spite of all this virus business!!

I finished up with Cornbread and some Normandy Veggies when I got home and we had a nice Sunday meal...Danny joined us.

We took our after-dinner Siesta...

...with our fur magnets all close by.

Lanny went back down the hill for the evening service and I put the chickens and ducks to bed and filled all their water ponds and buckets with fresh water...the lines were frozen yesterday so they had to make do with not so pristine conditions :-)

Paula and Shelly were out with the horses so I went over and enjoyed their company as well as some nuzzles from Dandy...I love those horses.

Now I am here by the fire, in my jammies, finishing up this entry and thinking about watching another Earth documentary...I made Mom and Dad some chicken noodle soup and I am eating some red chili smoked oysters and crackers...yum!

Don't know if Lanny will get home in time for a movie...we shall see...
Goodnight Y'all!
